I got this the flea market for $50 works great has the LM308 in it. it does not have an LED, and it has a 6 pin bypass switch not a 9 pin. I thought it was a white face, but the logo is opposite color.

Is this one of the coveted ones?

    Thanks guy!

The 6 terminal switch is because it doesn't have an LED. You only need a 3PDT when and LED is used. Nice score.

We started the BF Rat late in '86. You'll see WF and BF from that year. The reason for the switch was we kept having issues with the silk screen. They went until 88 when the Rat2 was introduced, though you'll likely still see at least some BF Rats from 88 as we burned through the remaining stock. :aok

Mine's an '88 BF - has the Rat I circuit, but on a Rat II board w/ cutout for the led, etc. BTW, who's Woodcutter? I've had 2 of his Rats and they've both been awesome.:D

Yup, yours is a Rat 2...I had an '87 - still an amazing Rat. Yours is probably one of the earliest Rat 2's if the pots are dated '86, because '87 was the first year of production of the 2 I think.

Wow this is very exciting! I have a keeley RAT that I was A/B together and I see why everyone talks so much about the rats from that time! It is more Beefy and warm compared to the Keely. They really don't even sound that much the same.

so does that mean its True bypass?

if i were theoretically shopping for the ultimate rat, is there a consensus on which one(s) is preferable?

I think the White Face is kind of the "best" Rat, but I'm not a Rat expert. I think the vintage "big box" Rat's look cool and I wish I knew the difference between it and the WF. I also wonder why the WF is different and the "best". You can get plenty of Rat's with the LM308 (that chip is the main thing you want in a Rat), so what else is different about the WF that makes it better? I've had a current Rat and a WF and I loved the WF.

EDIT: sorry, didn't mean to put the "thumbs down" in there. Must have clicked that on accident.
