I'm torn between Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) and Devin Townsend. They both inspire/intimidate the crap out of me.

Of course. Like who doesn't agree with this? I mean, after Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Miles, and Monk, Max Martin is pretty much the next name that rolls off everyone's tongue. o_O:confused:
It should be.
He has his name on 250+million cd sales or some such astronomical figure.

Greg Lake.

Best singer in the rock genre; best bass player & writer for the best band in musical history--Emerson,Lake & Palmer.

This is a foolish thread, but I think the word "genius" gets thrown around a little too loosely, especially in the pop/rock world.

There might be a half-dozen or so, and Alice Cooper is probably not one of them. <g>

Can't name just one.

Steve Morse, Stevie Wonder, Zappa, Stravinsky, Coltrane, Shorter, Chopin, Beethoven, John Mclaughlin are the biggest names that come to mind.

More recently, Bjork, and Trent Reznor continually impress me.
