Max Martin is the greatest genius to ever exist in the realm of the music world.
I'm torn between Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) and Devin Townsend. They both inspire/intimidate the crap out of me.
Max Martin, a distant second Bach I guess.
Todd Rundgren- songwriter, musician, performer, engineer, producer, visionary.
Herbie Hancock ...
It should be.
He has his name on 250+million cd sales or some such astronomical figure.
Best singer in the rock genre; best bass player & writer for the best band in musical history--Emerson,Lake & Palmer.
This is a foolish thread, but I think the word "genius" gets thrown around a little too loosely, especially in the pop/rock world.
There might be a half-dozen or so, and Alice Cooper is probably not one of them. <g>
Can't name just one.
Steve Morse, Stevie Wonder, Zappa, Stravinsky, Coltrane, Shorter, Chopin, Beethoven, John Mclaughlin are the biggest names that come to mind.
More recently, Bjork, and Trent Reznor continually impress me.
Can't name one but gotta. That is the challenge...
The Dead Milkmen
Stevie Wonder is a musical genius!
There are so many choices, but I nearly made this choice for a living artist.
I thought of him as well.
Me too. Heard "Pulled Up" tonight. Brought me right back to high school.
