I'm trying to decide if I should get a low-gain overdrive in addition to my FD2 or use the FD2 as my low-gain od and get a medium to high gain pedal. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    FullDrive 2 into one of the following sounds great;
    Tim/Timmy
    Keeley BD2
    Fulltone OCD

FWIW, I run my FullDrive2 into a Keeley FuzzHead, and it works very well for what I want.

I use my FD2 for medium gain rhythm stuff, so I usually stack in lower gain OD. The ones I've tried and liked have been:

    NOC3 Rock Candy Overdrive
    NOC3 Pure Drive
    Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor
    MXR/CAE Boost/Line Driver

My current fav is the Rock Candy. Although not as versatile as the Pure Drive, it does what I want really, really good. Sorry my list isnt longer, hope it helps.

    OCD.

It's like the FD2 and the OCD were meant for each other. Use either for low gain and kick on the other for higher gain. A good setup would be guitar -> FD2 -> OCD -> amp, where the OCD is on all the time and used by itself for rhythm, then the FD2 is kicked on (with the OCD still on) for leads with a bit of a mid-hump from the FD2 in Vintage mode. Very sweet!

Yeah but still won't deliver high gain distortion.
The OCD is what I call a mid gain pedal - an excellent one.

How much distortion does the OP need ???
If he only wants mid gain then OCD is probably the best.
The FD2 will stack well with any good pedal.

And if he wants high gain - what flavour of high gain - Marshall flavour or more modern metal tones ???

I stack my FD2 with a Wampler Plextortion. And they are suweet together.

I use the FD2 in comp cut mode for low gain by itself. And the Plextorion for mid/high gain. Then I kick on the FD2 when I need a lead boost. They sound great together.

I do this as well, except I run my Wampler Paisley into my FD II. Great tone!

I recently paired mine with an RC Booster and it works wonderfully. It adds sparkle and clarity that you didn't know you needed!

I'm actually running my FD2 with an RC Booster as well, but I'd like to start using it as a clean boost. Basically I want to use my FD2 for open chords, and add gain for tighter rhythm parts or the other way around if I had a different pedal for lower gain. I've seen the Barber LTD SR get lots of love on here.

Anyone use a Zendrive with their FDII? I'm interested in how they pair up.

I've pushed my FD2 (set for Vintage) with a TS-808, once in awhile.
But I like it just fine by itself most of the time.
I'd really like to try it with a hotcake one of these days.

I use a TS9 and/or OCD with a FDII and I think it works pretty well. I run low gain on all of them. The OCD seems like the highs are kinda harsh even in LP mode though through my MAZ 18 unless the master is up around 9 or 10 on the amp then it sounds much better!

I agree with others that the OCD is perfect match for the FD2. Fat Boost 3 too. I found the EP booster worked well with the FD2 as well. The FD2 really can stack with almost anything it seems.

On my board, my only dirt is the FD2 and a treble booster, and believe it or not, they stack great! Treble boost needs to be first, and this sounds really good with the guitar's tone rolled off a bit.

Honestly, I stacked the FDII into an OCD for a while, but I found I got better results setting the amp pretty clean (just a touch of hair on the tone), then using the 2 gain stages on the FDII for rhythm/solo. Granted, we don't use a ton of gain, but that works better for me than stacking them.

Having said that, they do stack well.
