as everyone probably already knows, I recently purchased a '63 tremolux....but the purchase along with the price of recapping it, is going to leave me tight financially for a few months.

The amp is 8ohms, and I currently have an open-back 2x12...which set of eminence speakers should I look into getting? The tremolux breaks up fairly early....so I would like an efficient speaker with high end sparkle, I don't need a lot of bass...just need it to be tight.

Further down the road I would like to get a repro cab with webers...but thats probably 600 at the least....and a pair of eminence is 100...and I need something to gig on until I can afford something better.

    thanks for your advice.

I have a Red Ryder which is a great Fender/Marshall compromise speaker, but if I were looking for great Fender tones the posts I've seen point to the Red White and Blues, but they're only available in 8ohms I think? so in your 2x12 it would be 4 or 16ohms.

Just put a Tonker in a 1x12 cab for a BF Showman head. Sounds fabulous. I'm pretty sure Tonkers are available in 8 and 16 ohms

Maybe mix a Tonker 16 ohm and a Swamp Thing 16ohm

Where are you getting a pair of Emi's for $100? That's a fantastic price

Gotcha, thought you meant $100 for 2 new Emi's from a dealer

Seriously the Tonker is great for Fender circuits. Gries amps http://www.griesamps.com/index.html come loaded with them.

How are the Texas Heats? Why not use them?

yeah I meant mine are 8ohm...and they are pretty decent...the vibrolux is a very different beast from the bandmaster I was running it with...just wanted opinions on other things to try out. but if TH's are my best bet I guess I'll sell the pair I have and re-buy a pair of 16ohms.

You and I are in the same boat. I can't decide between the following:

    (1) Weber California
    (2) EVM 12L
    (3) JBL D120F

My 2x12 cab from Carr is loaded with Red, White & Blues, the cab is wired for 8ohms.

After seeing the same posts, I tried a pair of Red White & Blues and IMHO thought they sounded like arse.

The RWB's in my cab are 16ohms each, not 8 --- that according to Carr so perhaps the RWB's they use are special. They are wired in parellel which produces 8ohms in a 2x12 cab. But you could wire two 8ohm speakers in series to obtain 16ohms.

Can you provide more detail as to what you didn't like about the RWB's? And which speakers would you recommend as an alternative, and why?

You pretty much described The Tonker.

I thought by '63 the blonde tremoluxes were 4 ohms .. 6G9-B circuit running into a 2x10" cab (two 8 ohm speakers).

Didn't the 6G9/6G9-A 8-ohm versions only last very briefly?

That's right. I've had a '62 rig for @20yrs, it's the 2x10 4ohm model. Inscho, are you sure yours is 8ohms? A '63 almost certainly came with the 2x10 cab, not the 1x12".
