I only use a Tone Bone PZ Pre. Great for gigs - pre and post EQ and you can run 2 instruments thru it. Such as one guitar in another tuning, or a mandolin, and a guitar in the other...

Roll up to gigs with this, a tuner, and 2 vol pedals and you're a pro ready to go.

I also have PZ-Pre. It's a nice little preamp, with good EQ and a DI function. You can either blend or switch between two input channels (switching by footswitch), and it has a footswitch-controlled boost and/or FX loop control and a footswitch mute. I use it to switch between and occasionally blend the signals from two different guitars, and I put a TC Electronics Flashback delay in the FX loop. I switch in the delay along with the boost for solos. Good feedback controls on the unit, too.

The guitars are a Taylor 410 with a Baggs M1 installed and a Cordoba GK Studio Negra.

Hi Small Axe,

I've been using these for a while : -

AcousBdMar11.jpg

Which sound like this : -

More videos from same gig in my signature.

The Steel Guitar Black Box is a tube powered buffer, adds a nice but of richness & sparkle to the sound with no harsh trebles.
Xotic EP booster is manily for boosting volume of solos & for the lap slide I play (see the "HalfLight" video via 'acoustic' link in my sig).
I use the Radial JS-2 mainly for the isoloation transformer on the output, gets rid of RF & electrical noise, especially useful in venues with dimmer racks, beer pumps etc everywhere which cause a lot of noise, &/or for venues with 'dirty' power, & splits the signal for PA & my monitor amp. Also protects the output of the Headway EDB-1 from phantom power, which according to John Littler at Headway, will cause damage.

When videos were shot - April 2010 - the compressor I had was a Demeter Compulator; I didn't get the nicer sounding tube-powered Effectrode till a little later. Also, the reverb on these videos was a 'Mr. Springgy'. Amp in the video was an AER Compat 60 (now changed to Phil Jones bass cub, more portable, richer sound) and pickup is Carlos CP-1A VIP.

Hope some of that was useful!

I use a Fishman Aura Spectrum for its tuner, quick eq, feedback killer, and a touch of imaging.

Sometimes a Boss RC-300 Loopstation for solo playing.

I get reverb from mixer/amp if needed.

TU-2
GE-7 for solos/fingerpicking
Carbon Copy
DL4- mostly for looping

that fits on a pt-mini.

occasionally i'll throw in a chorus or an octave pedal... but that's a very tough squeeze on a mini and i end up stepping on the wrong thing a couple times a night...

My Collings with a K&K into Tuner and K&K XLR Preamp then to the board. Sounds just like my guitar but louder. That's all I need.

I only use the acoustic for about 9 - 10 songs when playing live with our band. As a result, I keep the pedals to a minimum - just a Fishman Aura 16. My acoustic amp has reverb, which is always on, and chorus also if I want to use that. At home I tend to not even plug in, unless I'm testing different sounds for a new tune.

With my acoustic trio, I've been running my acoustic through my Boss GT-100 because I play both electric and acoustic it's better (for me) to run everything through one amp (Roland AC-60), then to the board. I use it for a bit of delay/chorus/verb to taste. For the other bands, I just use the onboard effects of the AC-60, though I sometimes add my Flashback Delay.

Peace,

Note that for a Taylor you can't use the balanced output with pedals because they won't turn on! (Most pedals aren't balanced anyway). Pedals use the sleeve portion of a 1/4" plug as the "on" switch, and they won't see it with the balanced output TRS. Most people using Taylor balanced outs go directly into an XLR mic input on the board, so it's probably not an issue, but something to keep in mind.

Pitch Black->T1M Buffer->Tone Press (Clean Boost)->Deep Blue Delay->Wet Reverb->Bose L1B1x2 PA

If I run into a backline pa thats not a bose I use a Hartke Bass Attack as a DI box with an XLR.

The pedal that surprised me was the tech21 British. Usually, when I attempt any overdrive or distortion on acoustic, I end up with nothing but squeel. The tech21 can dial in a very rich tube overdrive (Marshall) without sending my guitar into a tailspin. So, along with a boss dd20 for looping, I can branch out a bit on solo gigs

Guitar with Fishman Onboard Prefix Blender (piezo & condenser mic) > Korg Pitchblack Tuner > Aphex Guitar Xciter > Boss RC20 Loop Station > QSC K10. Sounds awesome! (IMHO)
