When you're hanging out at home passing time, what songs do you noodle on? Songs that you play by yourself and can use as a basis for going on a flight of fancy without any limitations from other players? I'm looking for ideas for other songs that I might have never thought about. Here's what I'm noodling on these days...what about you?

Changes(In The Heart Of My Own True Love) - by the Glass Harp (Phil Keaggy's old band)

Everything from Strange Brew (Cream) to Damage Control (Petrucci.)

Backing tracks + software modelers are perfect noodling tools and you can do it all while wearing headphones so it's not bothering anyone else.

Mostly Allman Brothers stuff like Blue Sky and Mountain Jam. Also some of the live Hendrix Blues stuff like Catfish Blues, Hear my Train a Comin' and a lot of older acoustic blues stuff.

I'm working on my contribution to the "Can't Help It" (Stevie Wonder tune recorded by Michael Jackson) backing track thread on another forum. There are some phrases I want to use, but need practice. So it'll be a combination of noodling and prepared phrases, hopefully without the "plugin" effect...

Ha Ha! That's a great one!

For some reason, I often end up playing 'Shot Down in Flames'.

Working on a lot of Rhoads and old VH lately.
Recording and layering tracks and other fun stuff.
Im also learning bass in between home noodling as I found Im as good a bassist as half the guys in the bands my guitar gig band plays with.
And we all know Bass players always get the................. gigs.

Lately, I've found myself jamming along to Santana records and Phish's NYE of 1995. Look a Py Py by the Meters also.

kinda like 70s rock stuff cos there's lotsa riffs in the gaps - use em as a stepping stone to writing my own stuff but if i hear something i like i'll try to play it without the song to refer to which is also a good way to stumble over something semi original
