I have a 1969 Traynor YVM PA head(40 watts I believe)that's been modified for guitar with three totally different voices. I have the old Bassman thing, the Plexi thing and then another screamer channel.

Anyways, I use to run it thru a 4X12 angled Marshall cab loaded with greenbacks and it sounded great, but damn it's just too much anymore. I got rid of that and bought a Marshall 2X12, but I don't care for the speakers in it. It has 65 watt speakers and I just don't like the sound.

The amp is 40 watts, but sounds like a 100. It gets loud very quickly. I liked the sound of the greenbacks, but I think I'd blow a pair of em. Any suggestions on a greenback type with maybe 30-50 watts each? Thanks!

those 65s, are they celestion g12-65s?
they're rated at 97db and in theory wouldnt be louder than greenbacks. perceived loudness can be a result of frequency response, but the 65s i have are much softer/quieter than my 100db h30s and on par with my m25s.

I am interested as well in what would pair with a 50 watt Marshall head in a 2x12 setup. I am currently running the classic G12H-V30 combo. I would like to try something else.

If you've got a Marshall 1936 2x12 cab, they usually come with G12T-75's as standard.
