I'm looking to put together a professional, flexible, pedal friendly boutique rig consisting of 2 amps, one clean, one crunch.

The clean needs to have plenty of headroom for a Les Paul style guitar, and sound fantastic, and the Dirty needs to have a complex thick distortion, doesnt have to get overly gainy, just a good rock tone.

So far im thinking maybe a Divided By 13 FTR37 (cleans) and RSA23 (crunch), but im also looking at the possibilities of a Matchless Lightning for the crunch.

I will be using a Matchless DC30 for smaller venues/gigs.

What would you put together if you were thinking of doing this kind of thing?

Ideally I'd like them both to be combos, but my crunch rig here is a head/cab:

    • Clean ("American"): Tone King Metropolitan
    • Crunch ("British"): Heritage Briton II & 112 cab with a Scumnico speaker

    That's one idea anyway :D

I'm using a tweed Deluxe as my main amp and a tweed champ as a satellite (effects) amp. My chorus pedal is the last pedal in my chain, and I am running it's second output to the Champ on the opposite side of the stage. The champ keeps a little fur on the tone even when the deluxe cleans up. In my single guitar band, this helps without seeming too gainy all the time. And the chorus sounds great from the separated amps. I'm loving this setup. Thankfully our drummer is a light hitter. This guitar setup seems a nice match for the B3/Leslie's output. Gotta watch the bass player and his SVT though.

I'd take a Carr (Slant 6 with double power - I forget the name) for clean, and a
    Mojave Scorpion for crunch.

OK, I'm gonna cheat and post another rig (or two) :p

    • Clean: Egnater MOD50 with T/D and VX modules (does crunch too!)
    • Dirt: Egnater MOD50 with SL2 and COD modules
    :)

    That's 8 channels! [IMG]

    That's what works for me!

If I didn't have the Mod50 and wanted to carry two amps around:

    Kingsley Deluxe 30 (clean)
    Komet Concorde (crunch)

    clean: louis electric '58 twinmaster
dirty: louis electric kr12, or top hat emplexador mk II

all outstanding at what they do, all take pedals well, all organic, immediate and real sounding at whatever gain/tone setting you care to select.

any of these pairings would make for a great combination...

the rsa is a little on the idiosyncratic side for me (and overly bright), not a 1 trick pony by any means, but not as useable in the real world as the emplex or kr12. and either twinmaster smokes the ftr. i have these amps all together, so i'm able to compare directly.

    For your needs...

Clean: Anything Hiwatt or Hiwatt inspired

Crunch: Guytron GT100FV or GT20 (depends on how much amp you want to carry).

When I think "complex thick distortion", Guytron is what comes to mind.

Clean - I still like a Deluxe Reverb. I usually tweak them out a little bit for some extra headroom. Second choice might be a D-style amp. More watts the better.

Dirty - Again, a D-style amp. Love that style of gain. Any make should do the job.
