I have an Orange AD30HTC in the emporium and someone is offering me a EC Gibson Firebird V in a straight up trade.

    Do I do it?
I also have a guy willing to pay $1000 shipped.

    What would you do?

Do you need another guitar or do you want the cash?

    Non-applicable.

Which one is the better deal?

It would depend on whether I was selling because I needed cash or because
you just want to get something in lieu of the Orange. Will you need a replacement for the Orange or do you have another amp that you are pleased
    with.
Try a Firebird V at a store and see if you are comfortable with it. It is large and definitely neck-heavy. I have a Firebird V and it plays and sounds great.
Many other people just can't get over the large size (the case is as big as a
    Buick)
You also did not mention your other guitars and amps. That would certainly
be a factor in a decision.

Obviously, this is IMHO, and YMMV

I have not seen a Firebird V priced under $1,000.

I current has this for amps:
70's Traynor YGL-3a Mark III head
    '67 Fender Bassman
    Matamp Minimat
    Marshall Silver Jubilee 2x12 2558
    Rocktron Vendetta Combo (all tube)

    For guitars:
    Gibson LP DC Faded
    Fender Hwy. 1 Strat
    Fender Lite Ash Tele
    Fender '72 Tele Custom (reissue)
    Yamaha Pacifica 604w
    PRS Singlecut SE
    Jay Turser JT-133 semi-hollow
    70's Ovation Viper electric

So....I don't really need anything:crazy......and money is always nice, but not needed at this moment.

I've always wanted a Firebird.....:drool Never played a gibson, but almost pulled the trigger on a Epiphone once. I have a sticky leather strap so the neck heaviness shouldn't be an issue.

So you're voting that it is a good deal?

Give yourself the bird if you want one, it always seems to me that modern amps always seem to go down in value and guitars up.

I'd say try one out if you can, but if not, go for it. I don't know the year or anything, but I be you could get at least a grand out of the guitar if you don't like it. I think they're like almost 1700.00 on MF. So, you could always sell it or trade it for something else. Good luck!!!

I can't try one....no one carries Gibson around here anymore.

I read that the nut width is a touch over 1-11/16" so that'll work well with my larger hands.

    It's a 2006.

I just feel weird trading an amp for a guitar........oddly enough the other way around wouldn't bother me.

I'd take the cash. You can always find another great used guitar in that price range.

IF you have the ability to play THAT firebird 1st, AND you love it, then I'd trade. Other wise I'd go with the cash... Too many variable in guitars to know if it's right for you ... and 1K will get you a lot of options for used guitars

Any Firebird in EC is worth more than a thousand bucks right? Take the bird and sell it if you don't like it. Much easier to ship a guitar than an amp.
