what's a fair market trade value on a klon?

i've got a silver one - w/out centaur graphic - in fair cosmetic condition w/ no box or instructions. i see the asking sales price on ebay is $1,250 to $2,000 (if they are gold w/ "horsey man", i.e., its namesake - the centaur figure). considering the hype and unobtanium surrounding this pedal, what is a fair trade-in asking price. note: i'm looking to trade the klon for a higher priced item and apply the trade-in amount to offset the purchase, i.e., i will still be paying money out of pocket for the diff between the klon trade value and the higher priced item. i'm not looking to sell and walk away w/ $$ in hand.
fwiw - i think my keeley modded blues driver does the "transparent" od thing and much more BETTER than the klon.:hide

Hard to say....
Slightly off-topic, but nice to know I'm not the only one using the Keeley BD-2 as a transparent OD!

If you aren't looking to make money, sell it for what you paid.

i'm not looking to sell. if i was, i'd be asking fair market value, which appears to be about $1,500. i'm looking to trade it (either store or individual) and apply the credit to a higher ticket item. what i meant by not looking to make $$ is i'm not looking to flip it and walk away w/ $$ in hand.

I've seen them from $700 here up to $1200 on fleabay.
It's worth as much as someone will pay for it.
I'd agree, the Klon is an ok overdrive pedal. Sounds good into a cranked Fender. But as a clean boost in a loud band, it is untouchable, something no BD-2 will get close to.

hard to tell if your going to trade at a shop what the will give you will be based in part on what you want and what they have into it, and if it's new or used. Best bet sell it for cash right out. cash is king

musicians friend and guitar center give roughly 50% of ebay prices averaged. So if the silver has a average selling price of $800 they will give you $400 in credit.

Trade in, probably $300-500 tops. Sell it outright and you'll get at least double what you would on most trade ins. There was one for $1000 in my local CL a couple weeks ago that I don't see listed anymore, maybe it sold?

I bet if you list it on ebay starting at what you paid, you'd get a lot bids and someone would get a "deal".

Yeah, I wouldn't waste your time trying to trade it unless whoever you are trading it to REALLY wants a Klon. If they want it, then it is valuable to them. If not, they are going to give you a trade value where they can still make a bit of money when they flip it once the deal is done and you are gone.

Sell it on the bay. There were a few completed listings in the $1100 - $1300 range lately. :idea Or, if you don't want to mess with Ebay fees, I will give you $500 for it right now.
