Have been using blackface amps for a while now. Played a Maz Jr 2 - 10 NR. Liked the projection, the tightness and th two tens alot. Good midrange but not used to the Dr Z scratchy/faux vox sound.

So what is tight and projects like the Maz Jr but has Fender tonality (20 to 40 watts), under 45 lbs (combo) and you dial mids in and out to go from Fender to Fender plus more mids for dirt.

Sounds like you might need an EZG. I don't know that dr z has a signature sound. Great amps... There is one voiced for nearly everyone.

I know the Fender Tone Master had that kind of thing going on the clean channel, and so did the Vibroking. Both are higher wattage than you suggested.
I've never played one, but the Fender Vibrolux was designed by Zinky, as were the other two amps I mentioned, and I'm guessing it might have some of that going on, and it meets your criteria.

Nothing. I wish Fender offered a nice meaty, dirty clean to crunch- well built, no frills amp.

I think Dr. Z does sort've have a signature sound. That gravelly crunch, that can still chime when you need it. I love that.

    A Z28 is a cross between a Vox & Fender sound.

My favorite BF sound so far has been the Fargen Blackbird.
