What's so great about the ts9?

Never had a chance to play one but that seems to be the go to overdrive pedal for a lot of people. Why is that?

It's dependable, mids cut the mix well, pushes a tube amp into drive at certain settings, beautiful compression, cheap? Sounds good with most gear.
Probably also the most modified pedal ever and tons of pedals made off the ts chassis.

huge mid, low end roll off(tighter guitar sound)

But honestly I never really fond of TS type sound(though I have a od808)
I just use it as booster sometimes. If the amp sound too bassy, like Mesa Rectifier(s).
Tone and drive knob never touched.

I had an early 80s model an it sounded fantastic! (Lots of mids!)

I flipped it for a profit thinking I could get the same sound from a newer, cheaper model; I've regretted it ever since. The new one doesn't sound nearly as good.

I was asking the same question as you until I was playing with a band. Crazy good mids, which are perfect for standing out and also for boosting pedals that need the mids (Big Muff).

I have a Keeley modded one, it's one of those pedals that I will always have, and never part with!

Same here. I scored one cheap and was going to flip it, but it just sounded so good. I cannot get a bad sound out of that pedal. Just perfect.

It's been a goto pedal well before srv exploded onto the scene. As to the OP, pick one up for cheap and see if it floats your boat.

Strat's existed well before Hendrix picked one up too, but they were never viewed the same way again.

Not to literally suggest that is the only reason for the TS popularity of course, but its still a pretty big part of it.

I know its why I originally got one
