Love the tone that Dumble and its inspired amps can get. We all know there are several great sounding amps out there. Some of them are really financially out of reach for the average working player. My question is...what is the the best value or bang for the buck one out there in your opinion? One that may not be the best but maybe a close second at a much more affordable price.
Can you expain, in some detail, why you picked your choice?

On a budget, I really think you're better off with a good clean sound and a Dumblish pedal like a Zendrive, Jetter GSR or Howie.

    Ceriatone Overtone.

Reason: didn't find anything better in its price range.

My second choice would be a Fender Supersonic.

Go with the ceriatone or a good clean amp and D style pedal. Both viable options.

How well does a used Fuchs mod compare with the current production models?

A used Fuchs Blackjack 21 is pretty nice. I fell for one at my local shop in a big way. I didn't have the $900 they wanted for it and I've seen them for a couple hundred less on eBay from time to time. It's on my list.

The Soldano Hot Rod 50 and 100 are single channel amps with the SLO overdrive channel. The transformers aren't the same but I've played them and if you want an amp with basically the OD tone of the $3,500 SLO, get the Hot Rod.

Can anybody out there comment from personal experience on a Ceriatone Overtone versus a Zen through a good Fender? I would think the Ceriatone would win tonally, but the bang for buck would be close. I'm thinking I'll eventually end up with both, but it'll be a while.

OK, I have both combinations...an Overtone (modded) and Zendrive through a '73 SR (my favorite Fender). The Zendrive is a great little pedal and really handy in a pinch to get "that" sound..BUT..no, the Overtone is far too good an amp to be comparing to a little box (no disrespect intended to Alf's creation). Sorry, it's not even close.

Ceriatone Overtone Special. One of my friends recently built the kit version and it really sounds great for the money. If I didn't have my TDS, I would be very happy with the Overtone Special.

Please explain something to me. It appears that alot of players like the Ceriatone Overtone. But at the same time it appears several have modified the amp.
Can you explain in non-technical terms what these mods "improve" in an amp that has gained favorable reviews stock? Is there certain mods or perhaps tubes, for example, that could b made into the amp when built by request?

Can anyone answer the question I asked about the mods and their tonal effect?
