Whats the best Tremolo for me? Suggestions please!

So I love a very hard cutting tremolo sound. Think the begining of Greendays - Boulevard of broken dreams, Smiths - How soon is now, Rage - Guerilla radio. The only Tremolos I have played have been the Supa Trem, The Boss TR2, and thd the Flip VTX Tremolo. I actually owned the Flip for awhile, and very much enjoyed it. But a year ago my whole board was stolen, and I have had to start over. Since then I have become a TGP, Raging, Cork Sniffing, Snubby Snub. (I blame all of you for this...) And my pedal board is being rebuilt one boutique pedal (And way too much money) at a time. I consider myself up to date with most of the other effects I have researched, but my experience with tremolo pedals is admittedly weak by comparison. So tell me.... What am I missing out on? Tell me about the Diamond, Empress, and fantastic other little known gems that I don't know about. I need some recomendations!!!! :munch

PS I'm being somewhat sarcastic. :) I try not to say angry/stupid things on the Internet ;) lol

But seriously... If not for the embarassment of having a Danelectro pedal on your board...

IIRC, How Soon Is Now was recorded with 2 different amps set at different speeds, so you would need a tremolo that can do that.. Or 2 tremlolo pedals!

From what I've read - interview with johnny marr- the guitar was recorded dry and then reamped and sent out through four(!!!) Fender twins tweaked to keep the same pulse going.

I've got an Empress and a Lovepedal babyface trem. Usedto own the Tuna melt. The Empress is big but offers a lot, soft subtle sine waves and hard chop and especially the "tube" setting is really swampy and sweet. Hard to go wrong. The tuna melt is really great too. I should probably rebuy it./c

The best I tried so far for a hard cutting but yet "clear" sounding trem was the Menatone Pleasure Trem 5000. I now have the Diamond, which is more versatile and will deliver cutting trem as well but you really need to tweak the volume and depth to not make it sound washed out. The Menatone doesn´t even have a volume control! and does not get muddy at all. Stunning... The Diamond is a great alrounder when it comes to trem, tough. I like it.

the best trems i have owned that can do that are the diamond (my current trem), dr scientist (very tweakable, i flipped it because it was too tweakable. too much interaction between controls to tweak on the fly easily), voodoo labs (great trem, no problems), lovepedal babyface (not easily tweakbable do to control layout). the diamond is by far my fave of these. the manual control can become a fun stutter switch to piss of your bandmates.

The Boss TR-2 is very warm and the Voodoo lab is very good too. I had to flip a coin between the two. I kept the VL because it was true bypass.

From what you say I would suggest the Supa Trem. My fav (don't think it's what you're looking for) is the Fuchs Crem de la Trem.

I just got a Demeter Tremulator in trade and I have to say it is a very simple & sweet Tremolo. Beats the pants off of the Fulltone SupaTrem & Red Witch Pentavocal Trem that I once owned, even if it doesn't have all the bells & whistles of those units. The longer I play, the more I appreciate pedals that do 1 thing and do it very well over pedals that try to do everything fairly well.

Jared, you didn't specify your budget, how versatile you need it to be, and how big. The ones that have lots of options including tap tempo are quite big, and not everybody wants that. I haven't tried the Empress or the Diamond because I didn't bother to after buying the Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter. Excellent in build and sound quality, ease of use and versatility. The only small problem that it has is that it cannot be tapped to rhythm when it is not engaged, but I easily learned to live with that after a few rehearsals. Maybe the new units have that option. Some people mod it to do that.

I have a Shape Shifter and I love it. It has tap tempo and enough controls on it to make it sound like whatever you want. Affordable too

I'm a tremolo nut and only want the throbbiest of trem. I've owned/played the Empress, Dr. Scientist, Cusack, Boss, VL, BYOC, and Dano at some point and they are all very cool trems, I'd have no problem recommending to anyone...but there is one tremolo that outthrobs everything.

The Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird. Not as feature rich or tubey as the others but so throbby and choppy :

This is what I use now.

give the Voodo Labs Trem a try, I owned one for a few years and it was pretty nice, you can deff get a choppy sound from it, unless you need a tap tempo. then get the empress.
