Been a while since I went after this sound. I only have 2 dirts- KOT and Alpha drive. Neither really has the mid sound that's needed. Looking for small box- playing through EL 84's

I think the KoT is perfect for the Texas Blues stuff. It's nice and crisp, more crunch rather then most overdrive pedals that are more distortion. If you want more mids, adjust your amp or throw a TS in front of the KoT.

I tested quite a few pedals to capture that texas style blues sound and opted for the Pedalworx Tejas. Dead on TS808 tone, true bypass, takes little space on my pedalboard, and it's versatile. In addition to the basic volume, tone, and gain knobs, the Tejas also has a "spice" knob. At minimum, you get the vintage TS808 tone, going towards noon it lifts the compression, giving a more open, fuller sound.

No longer in production but prymaxe and pedalgeek might have a few in stock.

For Texas tones try using the strat middle pickup with any type of TS pedal. Its gets "the" twangy SRV/ Texas sound.

Voodoo Lab's Sparkle Drive mod has as its base setting an 808 sound. There is another setting that seems to soup it up a bit, maybe a take on a Tube Driver. Might give you a couple different appropriate sounds. I don't own it, so I can't give it a full-on recommendation.

thanks- I have it set for clean boost and a nasty rhythm that I want to keep. Lots of great choices here!

It makes alot of sense to just use a tubescreamer but I like the Sparkle Drive and the Barber LTD a little better. I like to dial in a little of the clean tone with the Sparkle Drive-this brings back some of the bass that is lost when using "just" a tubescreamer.

The LTD has it's own bass thing going on and although it is not 100% SRV tone, it sounds sweet, full and musical on the neck pup.

Keep in mind that Stevie recorded and performed with many different amps going at the same time, so when you hear Stevie, you are probably never hearing just one pedal into one amp.

ha- I just realized that my amp was kind of built for this tone- Lonestar Special. I kept the second channel on my Zep tone all these years. I took the "austin-taceous" setting in the manual and played. Almost there. Goosing with the KOT is pretty sweet

Try the Way Huge Green Rhino. You can find them used for less than $100.

+1 i was playing my green rhino through amplitube's 3 fender twin amp and it took my breath away. Lately i have been playing direct into my computer since my only "real" amp is a valve jr stack

Can you play in real time through Amplitube? I've been wondering if I could use my pedals plugged into my computer for late night playing.

yes the better the computer the lower the latency... if you have a crap computer it might not be the best option but there is programs for smart phones and tablets also...

I think the MJM Phantom ( blues devil is the old name ) is probably the best.. its a very good boutique tubescreamer.

Ive had two of these before but I prefer the 2005 Lovepedal Burst Eternity with a neck pickup.. I think it has a woody texture and more cutting high end without being too sharp.
