What's the main pricing difference between Fender CS models?

Why are some Fender CS relic Telecasters more expensive than others? I've seen '51 Nocasters going for as a little as $2000 while others go for around $6000? Is it the particular artist/builder that commands these prices or is it that they just use more hi-end vintage-correct components and more attention to detail?

I don't know a lot about them, but I do know that the 'teambuilt' ones are the least expensive, and that there are 'masterbuilt' ones that are more expensive. Other than that, I don't know, but sometimes it can't be much else that hype and image...

Prices seem all over the map these days but I think the basic guitar is the same unless you are talking about masterbuilts. Heavy relics tend to cost more as do the limited edition models that come with the fancy embroidered cases and might have a slightly different spec. Otherwise, it's best to play as many as you can and buy the one that feels/plays great and hope its closer to the $2,000 mark(!)
