What's the TGP word on Headstrong amps?

Just wondering what other's experience is on these amps. I played a Santa Cruz 5 today and was really impressed, but need to know how it compares to Allen, Gries and Vintage Sound...all of which I have read about but not been able to play. Any experienced opinions on this?

Headstrong is a top tier builder of classic Fender style clones and variants. Excellent quality, tone and customer service. Lifetime transferrable warranty. I've played the others and would put Headstrong in first place.

Hi Barnzy,

What're your thoughts on the Santa Cruz 5? The amp's been on my radar since they were first announced. Would you say the tone's more Blackface than Tweed?

I've played through a couple Headstrong amps and if my bf deluxe ever dies it would likely be my first consideration as a replacement.

I thought it was a "big sounding" little amp. I played it in a bright and lively room...and the sound coming out of that amp was very rich. It definitly sits in the blackface camp. I was surprised at how nice the cleans were. It was a pleasant surprise to hear how clean the amp can be from a single 6V6. Not like a tweed champ at all. The reverb was nice too. The SC5 is a real winner.

I've got a Headstrong Royal Reverb. Beautiful Black Face Clean. My favorite amp.

Curious about this too. What's the consensus on the Lil King S? Looking for a jacked up Princeton Reverb with more volume/headroom...

own a lil king-s and a vebrovibe, and they are both outstanding in the tone department and the build department.

never played a princeton before so i could not comment on the differences of the lil king-s to a lil king but the lil king-s is loud little sucker.
