Please give any insight you have on Drake Transformers.
They take the wall voltage and convert it to a higher voltage to be rectified for the power supply of the amp.
A different model of them matches the power tubes to the speakers, allowing the tubes to push a low-Z load without burning up.
Gotta love the Drake.
I am not a technical guy. I really don't understand the previous comment.
. Is there something special about Drake Transformers?
. Is it considered a good upgrade or mod to a Vox to have Drake Transformers?
Drake no longer makes guitar amp transformers as far as I know. The older Drakes in marshall's were magic.Dagnal is now Marshall's transformer manufacturer.Dismal quality at best.
Now i could be wrong about Drake,so don't quote me.all i know for sure is they sound fabulous.
The previous comment was meant to be sarcastic saying that all transformers do essentially the same thing.Maybe a little humour thrown in there.
Thanks....Isn't it true that one output transformer over another can make a significant effect on the tone?
The Drake 50W OT from the JCM800 line was less than fantastic. It compressed REALLY early.
IMO, of course.
