So what's your favorite amp to go with a Les Paul? I recently picked up a great Les Paul and while it had some great chemistry in the store with a Marshall and a Mesa Boogie, it doesn't have as good a chemistry with my current amp lineup (Goodsell, Groove Tubes and Super Reverb). So I'm curious to know what great combinations yall have found with this particular type of guitar to help me with my amp hunt!

JTM45 (in my case a Soultone 45ME). Sweet tones.

Marshall 2104 Master Volume Lead 2x12 combo. An amazing combo to play a Les Paul through.

Which Goodsell do you have? I love my LP Studio through my Super 17...and your LP should absolutely kill through your Super Reverb.

Maybe the older stuff... but now, I think there are better tones out there. By the way, you missed a spot. :roll

My Train 45 is sick with the R9...and surprisingly enough the Vibro King shines as well with the Les Pauls. Then again, the Two-Rocks treat the Gibsons well...aw, hell, a Les Paul sounds good on all my stuff!

All I know from this thread is the Red Suede has one of the best looking suede jobs on a head and cab I've seen since....LVC's Bludo earlier in the thread!! What a great start to a thread!

What pickups are in your Les Paul. Those guitars have a lot of push and if the pickups are too hot you'll cream the front end of a Fender style amp, and not in a good way. Mush city. I've been using burstbuckers (3 and a 1) into my Tweed Twin with a lot of success. Once had a LP custom that sounded like magic into a deluxe reverb. Measured the pickups because they were gutless into my 6 knob marshall (toneful but too low). They measured at 6.5.

I tried the Super 17 earlier today for gain sounds with the LP (it's a R8 historic) I didn't care for the tone but I revisited it tonight focusing instead for a clean tone and dialed up some magic on the neck pu with the volume and tone on the guitar about half. Awesome! I was also able to get the "Marshall sound" with tweaking the Groove Tubes Soul-o 30. I think I really just needed to play around with the settings as I'm used to certain settings for my other guitars whereas they need tweaked a bit for this guitar. I'll revisit the SR tomorrow see if I can get a better tone!

Good question! They're whatever pickups come stock with a LP Historic R8 (I'm going to research what they are tonight) I definitely was getting the mush you were referring to when I plugged into the SR with the volume up.

I have a Two Rock K&M LTD that has a post OD tone stack, a trainwreck transformer, and can run in Class A as well as A/B mode with a wide variety of tubes. With EL34s and in Class A it has become the only amp I use with my Les Pauls. Why? It has a really nice natural sounding compression that adds to the sustain and really makes notes jump of the fret board.
