I need something to boost leads into my Marshall, so I'm looking for more of an OD. I'll check out that Crimson Drive.

Try the Frantone Hepcat. I believe that's Germ. Very transparent with a nice breakup.

Is one of the selling points for a $330 pedal. Their marketing alone has put them right out of my demographic.

The Telanordia overdrive is Germ. Never played it though.

That's too bad. Fran really knows her stuff and makes some great pedals. Plus she's one of those people that will personally respond to your emails within a day.

I will admit that the Hep Cat does look cool, but to ask for $330 for a pedal and not even mention what kinda stuff is inside isn't cool. I could email and ask, but I don't wanna blow $330 on a pedal anyway.

I had a prototype of the Fulton Webb Textosterone which was a germanium OD. Nice warm sounds in that one. Would love to hear the update official version.

When I think Germanium, OD does not come to mind since full out these things can get splatty with fuzz, its germaniums inherent nature. When rolled back they do clean up though. But if you want a "boost" into your marshall meaning more of what you have, just louder and/or more saturated from hitting v1 harder you want an op-amp based OD pedal probably, far more transparent than the typical transistor based pedals out there.

But you will hear a boost with most germ based, depending on the pedal, some will be more distorted/fuzzed than others.

I dont own any yet but these germanium based clips make me want all of them but I would not call them Overdrive, these and other Germs get into fuzz territory.

Right now I'm using a plain old Boss SD-1 with good results, but as with anything, I get a wild hair and switch my boost out from time to time. I was using a BD-2 before I did some amp mods, but with the current mods the SD-1 sounds fuller, richer, and less noisy. Just seeing what other options are out there, but I might end up sticking to the SD-1. I like the mid hump actually and with the level dimed and the gain almost off, it works great to pop leads out of a live mix.

I really like the Hepcat but in a different vien (more garagey), the EH Germanium OD is a cool buzzy OD that barely gets a mention ever.

I listened to the EH pedal and thought it sounded like crap on their website.

It sounds like a germanium transistor, they can get pretty trashy.

Do yourselves a favor and check out the ProGuitarShop demo of the EH Germanium OD. Some very cool sounds in there. Made me want one. You know how that is...

I have the newer, offical, painted version of the Fulton-Webb Textosterone which is germanium based. Wichita who posts here also has one of the original 2 knob versions. I will report back once I get my new board back from L.A.S.D. Should be about 5 weeks.
