What’s your favorite radio station or program?

I’m looking into starting to listen to some new stations at work via the web. My favorite local station is wers, Emerson college radio out of Boston. Such a good station. Typical new rock music with all the classic songs but no classic rock. The djs are really down to earth. They do morning news to. Some djs are college kids so it’s funny listening them pronounce local towns when they are obviously from somewhere else.

Wumb is similar out of Umass Boston but isn’t quite as good and the signal isn’t as strong. I love them on the weekend though for highway 61 revisited and folk tales. Both very well done shows about music history.

I started listening to kexp this week at work and I like the music a lot. I’m into rock and indie stuff.

Any other radio programs out there that are good?

Drowning in lap steels
Science Friday with Ira Flatow.

All the music stations around me are the same three songs that get painful after a while (except for the classical on NPR).

I listen to KCSN 88.5 for new (to me) music. It's an NPR station affiliated with Calif. State Northridge (streaming online at kcsn.org).

In the center of Clear Channel/Iheart hell, we have,

“No Hit Radio”
Regional Hits and Non-Charting Oldies from the 50's through the 70's.

“The greatest songs you’ve never heard.”
They aren’t always great, but it’s refreshing, especially from such a played out era.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering's station (91.7 FM), WMSE, is quite outstanding. Every shift is different because the DJs call the shots. In one day, you'll get funk, big band, metal, classic rock deep cuts and alternative. The next day may bring EDM, scratchy 45s from the 50s, modern blues, surf and prog-rock. Their web site lays it out. Some DJs will feature interviews and/or studio jams with musicians who are in town for a gig. Very personable and likable people whose hearts are all about the music. Today, there is a banner image of the New York Dolls on their home page! https://www.wmse.org/

Jim and Sam on Faction Talk 103 (SXM)
Covino and Rich on Faction Talk 103
Anything on Little Steven's Underground Garage (SXM 21)
Tom Petty's Buried Treasure
Cali Roots on The Joint (SXM 42)

I'd love a recco on a desert/stoner rock show

I gave up on radio some years back. I was still a PBS fan until a few years ago, I can't stomach it anymore. All the great radio shows they had are gone and it seems everything they do has a political agenda. I sometimes listen to the local classsical music station, but it isn't that good. If I turn on the radio it is to listen to the occasional radio preacher, and I have to be selective about it to avoid listening to their politics.
As far as music, I sometimes put on the local Alternative station, which now and then has interesting stuff. The local rock stations bore me, they play the same tired old bunch of oldies which is not even properly representative of rock era music.

I mostly just carry around CDs and minidiscs with me for music.

When I am in Northern central Ohio I pick up a station out of Delaware called WINF that plays a variety of softer top 40 radio from the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s that is very good, but I really am not in that area very often.

Cool, that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I’ll check it out tomorrow!
