Mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard for me
my favorite are
1. Swamp Ash body + maple neck/fingerboard
2. Koa body + Pau Ferro neck
I tried my guitarist's Warmoth Les Paul, I really really liked it.
It was a Black Korina back + Quilted Maple top body and Flamed Koa neck + Brazilian rose wood fingerboard.
it sound lush!! and plays like a dream. it doesn't sound like a Les Paul , more like a PRSish tone but only smoother.
Currently very much into spruce over maple,w/ebony board, but the old stand by is (multi ply) maple body with a hog neck and rosewood board.
would love to try that second combination and the standard les paul configuration with ebony boards.
Bolt On- Maple Neck Pau Ferro or Ebony Fingerboard Koa Body
Neck Through- Koa Neck and Body ( have had Ebony but would have preferred Pau Ferro )
Set Neck-Koa or Mahogany neck and Body -Pau Ferro or Rosewood
I have never owned a Pau Ferro Fingerboard Guitar but I always like it every time I play one with it.
Electric or Acoustic?
My tone quest has brought me to mahogany body, neck, and rosewood fingerboard. Although, I am looking for a mahogany body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard.
Mahogany body w/maple cap, mahogany neck with either ebony or maple fretboard.
Swamp ash body - Flame maple neck - rosewood board for TC or SC style guitars
Mahogany/Maple body - Mahogany neck - rosewood board for LP style guitars
Rosewood back/Sitka spruce top - Mahogany neck - Rosewood board for acoustics.
How 'bout mahogany neck with laminated maple body?
Flame Maple capped Mahogany Body with a Flame Maple neck and fretboard.
3/4 maple capped alder body, maple neck and maple or ebony fretboard. I would also be fine with an ash body and maple fretboard... I tend to search for a "tele-esque" tone and sometimes a fatter version of that.
Semi-hollow maple body, mahogany neck, rosewood board!
Maple neck, rosewood board, basswood body
Maple neck, maple board (both q-sawn), chambered swamp ash body
Same neck/board as above, alder body
Black korina neck, rosewood board, chambered black korina body
Some of you guys are exotic. I still think Les Pauls are petty wild, what with their maple tops. I've moved to Les Pauls, but I like how SGs sound a lot too, just mahogany plus a rosewood fingerboard.
I was looking for this in the poll and BAM, there it is in the first reply. This is a totally killer but sadly underused combo, especially with a maple cap!
Also voted for mahog/mahog/rose, alder/maple/rose, and ash/maple/maple.
Mahogany with choice of fretboard.
After building LOTS of guitars now, I can say Paduak on Mahogany with a maple neck and depending what user is looking for either Maple, Ebony Pau Ferro, Bloodwood or Wenge for the fingerboard.
Maple neck, Ebony FB, basswood body, veneer maple top.
Pine semi-hollow with Masonite top and back, plus Poplar neck
Molded Fiberglass semi-hollow with Poplar, or Mahogany neck. Maple, too.
Hollow Maple plywood with maple or Poplar neck
Rosewood boards all.
