Clapton, Gibons, page, Carlton, Ford and Bloomfield are someone my favorites.
Depends what style you like. I love Wes’s humbucker tone on the L5. I’m pretty sure they were the same pickups they were using in the 50’s and 60’s LP’s. But really there are too many to name.

I played with a guy in the 70s who had pafs on his tele. This was back in the day when people were ripping them out to put in super distortions.
It sounded like a Tele on Steroids. That is the sound I hear in my head, and it isn't just memory, there are studio recordings and have some live stuff.
I was just listening to some Freddie King and that is the sound I think of, bright and snappy.

That sounds nice. I had some OX4s in my h535, maybe it was the guitar, I don't know, I couldn't get them to sound like that. They sounded dark to me. I put some Rolph's in and it is now very similar to that sound, maybe even More teleish.

So True! Maybe its me...if I play a HB over 7.9k..I just dont like it. I know, I know, I know...that's just one measurement and it doesn't tell all....but I'm just sharing what I've noticed. When it comes to pickups..school me. But so far, nothing above 7.9k sounds articulate at clean..and especially, when you add some gain.

I think that's why I like P90s so much. The right ones have that bright sparkle that a good PAF has.

70’s Robert Fripp to name someone who i haven’t seen mentioned. Mahavishnu-era John McLaughlin, too.

Those early Billy G tones, as others have mentioned. I'll add Warren Haynes.

    Thanks mate.

Interesting that you found them dark, as I find them the opposite of that.

I suppose it will come down to the magnet and wind though. Mine are a low wind with A4s.

Great sounding guitar and amp! Super woody tone on both pickups - THAT'S the PAF sound, IMO - woody, but bright and present! Great job!

Man, when you have tone like that, you don't need so much gain - sounds great where you have it!

    Thanks, Dana O.
