Where do you have your Skreddy Pig Mine in your signal chain?

Before or after...
buffer?
Wah?
end of dirt chain?

Pig Mine owners chime in, please explain why you have it there?

Thanks!!

I've got mine at the end of my dirt chain. I tried it before light OD, Marshall-In-A-Box & Fuzz Face/Bender style boxes, but it always sounded congested/restrained/cloaked. However, it sounds great boosted with a light OD or a clean boost. I have a love/hate relationship with the Pig Mine right now and am leaning towards booting it for a time, as the Lunar Module>Screw Driver is just an amazing stacking pair.

I have been using it like this.. G&L Legacy > Pig Mine > Analogman Bi Comp > Deluxe Memory Man > Amp. this way i can have the comp on all the time and the pig mine cleans up soo amazing with my guitars volume knob its unbelievable....

Astronome,

Do you have a buffer in your signal chain? I use Boss TU-2 as a buffer first in my chain and since it's a fuzz I was wondering how it plays in the signal chain. But from other guys it seems like it sounds good anywhere.

I guess I just have to try it.

no buffer in my chain. just those things. and everything sounds clean and clear....really havent had a better sound than this... i can get everything from clean to gritty clean, to classic rock overdrive to high gain metal ish to fuzzed out muff awesome sounds.
i guess the amp i am using makes the biggest difference.. its usually a Gibson Goldtone 112 with reverb... with a greenback in it.... other amps that sound good with this configuration though are my Dr. Z RxJr and z 4 X 10 and Fuchs ODS 100 and EV 12L

the big difference is the addition of a compressor such as the Bi Comp....after the Pig Mine. it just sounds too weird and stuffed up before the pig mine..

How does it sound without the compressor?

i don't use compressor with dirt at all anymore. actually, my compressor comes after all of my dirt. don't need a compressor with this pedal whatsoever if you ask me. . . . . you can get great compression and violinishsustaniaville ALL DAY LONG and without effort. actually, this pedal has a hilarious amount of gain on tap. when mine arrived, the sustain/gain knob was at like two or three o'clock. i was sincerely laughing at how much fun that was to goof off with. no right hand necessary to play the guitar. . . . i run the gain from like nine to eleven most of the time.

HA! That is interesting. What guitar and amp are you playing with?

strat with intentionally weak-arse pickups. blues junior and modded alessandro rottweiler (modded for bigger verb tank and some verb circuit caps and swapped the 6l6 for 6v6)

i got mine from lonelylooper - member here.. . . and i'm still very thankful that he basically sold it to me at cost plus shipping. solid dude. i'm even more psyched because it is a pedal that i will never sell, but didn't want to wait for to 'try it out'. totally the quietest muff i've ever heard in my life.

Likewise, I bought it from a member here as well for more than a fair price. Mine will be here next week and I cannot wait!

On a side note, what output are your pups putting out and how do you like that? That's actually going to be my next project guitar... Get weak pups.

no idea what the output is on the pickups. stock in my 1985 japanese strat. all my other strats have been pretty significantly louder though. i realized i prefer the 'weaker' sound. i'm really into the 2 and 4 position and they give me more quack or cluck than any other set of pickups i've ever heard (except like two other guitars). i guess i attribute it to the 'weakness' of the pickup. could be TOTALLY unrelated though!

well i run my compressor with the attack up alot and the compression down a bit and the volume up so to give my signal a big boost in clarity...without it on the pig mine just sort of fades into the background but with the bi comp after it it just explodes into the mix without any extra compression.. i run the sustain on the pig mine at 9 oclock as well.. there is alot of gain available.
