I'm wanting to get an amp head (or combo) that will get as close as humanly possible to EJ's lead tone.... The amp has to be no greater than 50watts and around the $2k mark... doesn't have to be marshall as there are many smaller "boutiquey" companies making very faithful re-creations...

(I have a few tubescreamers (808s, ts9's) and i use a replex for delay which is as close to an ep3 as im gonna get [IMG]

    what are peoples thoughts here?
    all advice is greatly appreciated!

    Cheers

Ceriatone makes a 50 watt bass model as well. Get yourself a good attenuator and crank that puppy!

Any 50 watt Plexi Superbass or clone. Ceriatone will make you one with a PPIMV installed for 1000 dollars shipped in a headcab. Can't really beat that.

+ another 100, make sure to have the amp cooking before you kick it in the face with the butler.

It's hard to go wrong with Germinos.

Haven't gotten to open it up yet (volume wise) but I have a strong suspicion that my Fargen OE800 will do the trick!

Eric uses a Marshall JTM50 head, which is identical to the Germino Club 40. He also replaces the EL34s with 6L6s. I've done the same and it EQs the amp for more mids and makes strats sound huge versus EL34s. I've done that experiment and it sounds great. Also, with the Real Tube pedal, run the highs almost off and the amp tone controls dark and you can crank the amp higher and really get THAT tone. Next add rediculous amounts of post amp delay and you're DONE.

Actually the 6l6s are only in the rhythm marshall.

Why not just buy a Marshall reissue, a Tube Driver and be done with it.
Actually you will want to run all the eq on the Tube Driver OFF. That's right, bass and treble all the way down.

I'm pretty keen on the ceriatone plexi50 bass...
they look pretty good and the price wholey crap it's almost unbeleivable..!

does anyone have any decent recorded clips of this amp... is this a 2 channel footswitchable amp... coz one of the youtube clips it appears that the guy goes from clean to distortion by kickin something... and it doesnt say if he uses a pedal or if the amp has a 2nd channel...

No it isn't. Just look at any plexi clips on youtube. For the most part the Marshall reissues and clones sound about the same.

Heres a cool one of some clean tones using the volume knob.

Heres the same superbass full drive.

I can pretty close with my TopHat Emplexador on the Vintage voicing and EJ Strat. Don't have a tube driver though but with a fuzz & delay it's sweet and the cleans are beautiful too

EJ's stuff from Bloom does not sound much like anything from his previous work. A little bland and mushy in comparison to Tones, Ah Via Musicom, and Venus Isle. Now, the tone from Lonely in the Night is amazing!

Second clip is definitely boosted. In the "About" section: "Less gain from the FD2 and more boost. Boost mode for solo. Vintage Superbass, Fulldrive 2, Gibson R7, THD 2x12" cab"
