I want something cheap, unmodded, so what do ya'll like best? SD-1, OD-3, OD-2?
BD-2 & OD-3
BD2 and SD1
You might want to think about the Digitech Bad Monkey as well. 40 Bucks brand new and sounds awesome out of the box!
Of the current line the OD-3 and SD-1 are pretty good. The OD-2, SD-2, and OD-1 are also worth looking into and can be had cheap
OD3 and SD1. The SD1 is probably my favorite, but it depends on what kind of sound you want.
I got an SD-1 off ebay really cheap and put the Frommel mod in it, great improvement, against an original TS-9 it held it's own.
i digg the sd1.. bd2 second
In front of a dirty or semi-dirty amp, the SD-1 sounds great. The OD-3 is just as good as well.
I had an OS-2 when I was a kid and given the crappy amps I played through, it was actually a good sounding pedal. It would probably have sounded really good with a real tube amp.
SD-1. Check ebay for a Monte Allums modded one. They can be had pretty cheap if you get lucky.
SD-1 is tough to beat. It has a good buffer. It stacks well. It has a good range of dirt. The only thing I don't like is the colour.
I've also owned the OD-2, OS-2, BD-2, OD-3. None of them sound as good as the SD-1, IMO.

Own both OD-3 & SD-1. Like them both for different reasons. OD-3 adds a nice punch to my sound, while SD-1 has a bit more gain. They stack well together also. With that said, my current pick would be OD-3.
keeley mod ds-1
OD-3 by a country mile. Its useful along its entire gain range and has a fairly flat frequency response without the typical Boss Shrill treble. Great warm overdrive - the best Boss ever made.
The SD-1 is nice if you want a TS for cheap. More open, less compressed than the Ibanez version.
The DS-1 needs mods to be useful. You'd think Boss would have incorporated some mods by now but no... it was MXR that came out with the Badass '78 which is a modded DS-1.
BD-2 is OK as a timmy-like low gainer OR a nasty almost fuzz like sound. It rolls off nicely from the guitar as well. But it cuts bass, has the shrill treble of the DS-1 and the decay fizzles out unnaturally.
The OD-3 is supposed to be good but my favorite boss is the Bluesdriver. When combined with wah it gets a really nice Hendrix sound. It is so much fuller than other boss distortion pedals. Personally I don't like the SD-1. Also, if you like harder stuff than the Metal Zone is a good pedal.
Put the BD-2 next to an OD-3 and the bass rolloff on the BD-2 will stick out like a sore thumb. Trust me.. it is not fuller sounding than the OD-3.
It does have alot more gain however.
