Ash without question. I have a hard on for ash bodied strats. I just like the tone of ash more.
On looks alone, w/o trying them out I would say the Ash bodied Strat. Very nice!
I like them both. Ash is more figured, but I kinda like alder because and alder strat always seems to have a little more punch/cut to the tone. I a-b them all the time through the same amp. But ash is still nice, it's got a little dip in the middle of the guitar's frequency and reminds me a little bit of an acoustic guitar type tone.
Going on looks alone, they both look nice, but the alder's neck looks anemic and too Squier like. They should'a put a little tint on that. Not sure if the ash neck has a tint or it's just lighting.
Ash on two tone. They look fantastic.
I had that same guitar! (not CS though but same color)I say ash but whatever YOU like.
Don't confuse that with any similarly spelled/sounding words!
Swamp Ash and a one piece maple neck are a match made in heaven IMO.
Alder Relic strat. And you don't have to worry about the color of your neck!
I've always liked ash for teles and alder for strats.
Thanks for the input... looks like ASH is the way to go although I can't stop thinking about Clapton's Brownie which was Alder.... Don't know what is up the tint on the Alder neck. The shop says they look the same.
I think the alder sound cooler
If you get a chance to play them, then you`ll know!
That's a nice piece of ash. :AOK Ash gets my vote.
Looks: Ash Sound:Alder
Whatever sounds best these are the two magic combos.
Ash + Maple = bright, musical, harmonically rich
Alder + Rosewood covered Maple = warm, deep sweet tone
I'd go with the ash, as that grain is just beautiful. A friend of mine once owned an ash strat, and man, I had guitar envy when I would seem him playing it.
Of those two pics I like the look of the ash...but I tell you brother Alder sounds better to me in general. The neck on the alder looks really pale...
