Which Fuzz?

I haven't had a fuzz for many years, but find that I would like to add some dimension to my sound. I typically play humbuckers with a mid to high gain sound. Probably using the fuzz for chords as much as leads. Think Sababth and High on Fire.

Back in the day I had a Muff Fuzz which was just a mean and dirty little guy. Would love something like that but none of the so called equivalents seem gain-y enough.

Also, I know these pedal can get over the $200 real fast, so looking for something a little cheaper. Digging the Barber Trifecta, but are there better options?

Maybe you could look for a DAM Meathead clone, they sell for cheap....., pretty sure you can get one for around 100$

If you like Muff-style fuzz both the Devi Ever Hyperion and EQD Hoof do that pretty well but with a bit more oomph/zazz. Both are reasonably priced. People dig the Way Huge Swollen Pickle too. All three are very much on the Muffy end of things. But you can go nuts with fuzz and spend kajillions.

Earthbound Supercollider will do you fine. I love the hoof, but for High on Fire the SC is a great bet at a good price.

If so, then you're right, it's very hard to find something that sounds like this odd little "Sabbath-In-a-Box." I wish EHX would reissue it--the little Nano Muff doesn't even come close.

That's IT! Man did that thing sound great. Mine was rusty and old, I think I bought it out of a box of junk at a yard sale. I have sold off a lot of gear in my time, and that's one that I regret....

Every modern fuzz I've tried has some kind of gate something that cuts off the end of the notes. Not going to mention names because they do sound good for what they did. I just wanted the fuzz to fade out with my feedback. Then I remembered I had an old Fender Fuzz/Wah/Volume pedal..not the reissue one like out right now but same features. This one is just like a wah set up with a fuzz you can blend in and a volume control feature. Pedal steel players used them in the 60's. Anyhoo the fuzz doesn't stop till I end the notes and sounds like the tone I remember hearing growing up (pre disco). The reisusse swivels side to side.. mine works straight up and down. I think they are called Fender/Blender or ssomething like that.

I'm a big fan of the Monsterpiece fuzzes. Fabulous build quality, great support, and great sounds. Prices aren't cheap, but very competitive with other boutique offerings.

+1 for Monsterpiece. But if you're serious about Fuzz.... Creepy Fingers is the way to go. A little more $$ but the best modern fuzz builds anywhere. NOS/Vintage fuzz with modern quality and reliability. Just my opinion.

I like the Earthquaker Devices stuff for moderately priced options. The Hoof Fuzz is great and the Tone Reaper is cool, very high gain to me!

Hoof.....does chords with humbuckers outstanding, does heavy leads outstanding, sustains, clear not fizzy, I think Sabbath sounds would be a walk in the park for the Hoof.

Wren and Cuff Caprid. It's a bit over $200 but it's one of the nicest classic big muff inspired pedal out there today IMO.

I'm not sure if you're looking for a Muff or a Fuzz (I think they are different), but I'll throw out there that my favorite Fuzz with HB's is the Basic Audio Scarab deluxe.

Most of my Fuzz pedals have a strong preference for single coils. The Scarab Deluxe works fine with singles, but also with HB's better than most I have tried. Ultra versatile, and covers a lot of ground.

I have the Nano Muff Fuzz, and it sounds vaguely like a Maestro FZ-1A, but with most of the treble chopped off and the attack turned down. I freaking love it on bass though! I've never compared it to an original, so not sure how different they are. I've never seen any pedal claim to be a clone of it, it seems to be a somewhat under the radar pedal.

BTW, most posters seem to think the OP is talking about a Big Muff, and the Muff Fuzz is the precursor to the Big Muff. They have VERY different sounds.

The Muff Fuzz that was on eBay went for $81.00. Decent price for a cool, and definitely under-the-radar pedal. Maybe the OP snagged it? Score if he did.
