Thinking of getting an OCD to replace the gt-500, just not a good pedal to my ears. The OCD 4 seems cool, but didn't know if one of the earlier versions might be better. Its going to be primarily for a high-gain tone in a Germino LV55 and as a solo-boost with other Marshall amps. Other than the boost, I can't stress how much I don't like the tone of the gt-500. Any thoughts??????????

I had a version 3 for a short time.It was very bassy and muddy, couldn't find a use for it at all.I'll probably get flamed for this, but these are my thoughts.(We need a thumbs down smiley)

We have tested v3 against v4 during the tonefest in April (AFAIR). There were 5 persons in the studio and we've agreed that there is difference, but nothing big. And we liked v3 better.

I also compared version 3 and 4 in person at a music shop and I definately prefered v3. It just seemed a bit punchier at lower gain settings somehow. It sounds great with my DRRI. Not too much bass at all.

I like V1 the best... more of an organic OD instead of a borderline distortion like the new ones.

I bought a V1 shortly after they came out and have not seen a reason to try another version - great pedal.

    get a new one.
Guys around here like to pretend that their old (no longer available or "waitlist") items are THE ones to get.
    Mehhhh.
v1 OCD= farty bass with sizzling horrible highs.
    v1.2 is better
v1.3 is dull on the high-end, less bass
v.1.4 is perfect, sweet, good bottom, great highs, gjust the right mids.
    Readily available to-boot.

Can you say you like one better than the other (and why)? Or are they just different, but equal?

    I have the V3.

I love it. It works for me. I play it through My splawn, carmeron modded marshalls
and blackface fenders. Very touch sensitive. great organic tone.
plus I use Mogami & Monster cables & my patch cables are George L's.
    Makes a big difference.

I want V5: I hear it comes with a USB port, so future updates can be downloaded directly to it.

I've got a v3 that I love. The voice works well with my amp (Fender Twin) and the range of quality tones possible makes it one of the most versatile od's I've ever owned.

but not at the same time. Have a v4 now and couldn't be happier. I seem to remember the v2 having some of that Fulldrive mid honkiness, but again... I never compared them side by side. Liked the v2; love the v4.

I must modify what I said, v3 through a bright Fender is a good thing.

Tried em' all & bought another V1 as a backup - Just more amp-like & dynamic/organic to my ears & feel, YMMV ;)

here's a little twist to the v3 - v4 comparison. I have both on my board. I had a couple issues with the v3 (too bassy, not enough mids), but I loved the character of the overdrive. So I bought v4. It fixed everything I didn't like about the v3 and has been my main od ever since I bought it. I've tried many and the v4 is by far the best, imo. Too me it sounds like an amp.

A couple weeks ago I messed with my v3 by changing one cap value. This lowered the bass and really brought the mids forward. I now use both of them. The v4 is still my main hard rock rythm od, and the modded v3 is used for my low gain od. It really maintains nice sparkle to my single coils. The combination is the best I'v tried.
