    Hi guys

I am really satisfied with my LSS channel 1 (clean) and less with channel 2 (drive). I am therefore considering to put 1 or more OD pedals in channel 1..

Which OD/distortion pedals have you tried with your LSS and which one were/are the best recommended?

    Thanks!

Fulltone OCD is an amazing pedal. I have a RAT, OCD, and Expandora and I also used to own a Lonestar. The OCD was by far the most musical and I actually ended up preferring it to the Drive channel of the Lonestar and ended up doing this:

    Lonestar Clean: clean rhythm
Lonestar Drive: basically a clone of channel 1 with slight gain boost
OCD: in front of either channel for my main drive tone.

It has lots of gain, high pass/low pass filter and it's a great pedal.

    Dear Miles

I totally agree - I also use the Drive Channel as a clone of Channel 1 with slight overdrive.

It is the reason why I am lookin' a pedal for a "third" sound with more drive but still defined. I was considering Menatone (Red Snapper and/or Blue Collar)

    Thanks for your help!

Yeah, but Timmons uses the Lonestar Classic, not the special. Still, great tone, but the Classic and the Special are VERY different amps to my ears.

The BB are clean boosts?? Those are fine, but they don't behave as much like a good OD pedal. I also use a clean boost on occasion but you can't pull the same saturated tone out of it as you can with a really good OD pedal, at least from my experience.

    Hi

Thanks for the vid link. It is indeed the Mesa LS Classic (w/ 6L6) and not the Special w/ EL 84.

By the way, I find my RC Booster quite unnecessary with my Mesa LSS.

A good friend and terrific player I know uses an unmodded blues driver with his lonestar.

Personaly it wouldn't be my first choice as an OD for my rig but he gets some great tone from that set-up.

I use a TS-9 and a M.I. Blues Pro with both the clean and drive channels. Sound great with both!

The Special likes the BB too. And it's not a clean boost...or I should say, not just a clean boost.

I feel the same way. Love the clean channel and dislike the gain channel. For my overdrive I use an OCD through the clean channel at about noon or 2 O'Clock depending on my guitar. If I need more gain I add in my Sparkle Drive. To my ears the pedals sound much better than the gain channel.

How would you compare it tone to the Andy Timmons vid on YouTube?
Obviously the Lonestar and Lonestar Special are a tad different.
So how would you describe it?

I think it would be best suited up with a Keeley Mod+ TS808, as it is extremely transparent, and would only beef the tone up a little bit instead of an alternate sound.

    And on another note,

I had a similar experience with that amp, and the drive channel gets the best tone from rolling off the gain and cranking the power section. I only thought it sucked because I tried it at low volumes, but it shines with the el84s cook.

    Dear Scott

I should definitely try this option - I hope it is still a convenent solution for neighbours!

    Thanks
