I know this probably seems a dumb question asking a bunch of strangers which guitar I should get next because its a personal type thing that one would fit your style more than others, so I guess I am wondering which you would buy if you had the choice. If you had plenty of acoustic guitars, and plenty of electrics to suit your needs and had a choice between
A: a really nice nylon string electric renaissance or
    B: a national resonator guitar
Which would you choose any why?

A solidbody nylon string with piezo pickup? Is that what you mean?

I'd go with a regular classical nylon string guitar. You can take it anywhere without having to plug it in. And you can play it at night when everyone is asleep.

I've always wanted a National steel guitar. I think it was seeing Mark Knopfler play one that did it.

I've never really been into either one, but I'd probably get more use out of the nylon string.

Personally, as much as I love slide guitar, I can handle maybe an hour at most of playing an all-steel National type guitar, then I'm done.
Just too grating same/same after awhile.
A Dobro, well now, that's a whole different story!

If you're seriously considering a steel, do yourself a favor and play a steel body then a Dobro.
See how long you last with either of them.
The nylon may be your best bet. But I say if steel, then Dobro is my much preferred choice.
