Hey guys, i'm probably about to get a jcm 800. the gain on it is very nice sounding but I'm going to need some kind of overdrive or something to get it into heavy gain territory. which pedal's do yall recommend? i will be able to try them from the store that i am buying the amp from. Ive heard that XTS makes sweet pedals, maybe someone can say which one to get.

Timmy, zendrive, the elements, SHO or Koko boost if you want to keep the drive sound of the amp. I have a custom 25w JCM800 head it likes most drive pedals actually.

The JCM800 is the sound of 80s metal, is it not? Well I the modded 800 is, so I guess I still see what you might be going for. Timmy is still a good idea. Also maybe just push it with a MXR Micro Amp or a Suhr Koko Boost would be cool. Other idea ... Fulltone Fat Boost ot EH LB-1???

I thought a JCM 800 handled 80's metal fine. Maybe look for another pedal that was popular in the 80's? Tubescreamer, Rat, SD-1?

Will the timmy be able to get a heavy metal sound? like 80's metal not modern metal

I already have an AC boost so maybe that would work?

How are you going to be setting the amp that is a pretty good factor. Are you doing a crunch tone where you roll back the volume knob (or volume pedal) for a clean sound, and then hit a pedal for some more filth, or are you going clean to med-high gain territory? What kind of guitar as well?

I hit the front of my JCM 800 with a FD2 in comp/cut mode. Clean volume boosts are amazing on it for gained out rhythm. In normal mode (my FD2 is an old push/full FM version), it's a little smoother and a bit better for leads. For me, my FD2 on comp cut mode is my secret weapon with my 800.

Set yourself up with both a clean boost and an overdrive (probably Tubescreamer-esque) on minimum drive and max volume and enjoy the sonic awesomeness of the boosted JCM 800!

Gibson Sg and im gonna roll my guitar down for cleans. basically for setting up the amp the gain will be all the way up with bass maxed trebble at zero and mids at like 5.

ISP Totally Blues is the one I'm using now. Covers a lot of ground from mild OD to high gain.

ok cool sounds like you're going to want something that will up the mids abit and put the treble to taste for a riff or solo. I don't think you can go wrong with the AC booster because if you set the bass down put the treble up the mids will become more apparent and then you can set the volume and gain to taste.

Rat 2, Skreddy Screwdriver sound good with it. Actually for what you want, more Rat 2. The Skreddy is good for classic rock type stuff with a little fuzzy edge on it. The Rat gets into heavier stuff like what you're after.
