I'm looking for something that can play some heavy destortion and also be tamed enough for a rhythm that doesn't clutter, should i get the RAT 2?

If you can find one for a good price, definitely DEFINITELY get a 1986-1988 rat.

I've got a Keeley modded RAT (USA model) and I really dig it.

Thinking of selling it because my Mo'D covers a lot of that ground.

Vodka Mods with Tophat is hard to beat....also check out the RI they stopped making a few years ago called "The Rat" which is the vintage rat....this is the one w/ no led. Anyway I found a new one recently at a music shop and bought it....at gig level volumes this pedal rivals any boutique pedal I own....awesome pedal.

No need for boutique. Find an older, large-knob Rat 2 and rock the hell out. Keeley (et al) mods are nice but not necessary.

Rat2 but make sure its a few years old. Then swap in the LM308 chip. Some say no difference, but in my Rat2 swapping the TI chip to the LM308 was a big difference, the LM308 to me sounds smoother less harsh and more organic.

I use the Brown Rabbit. It's pretty cool.

I'm pleased with my '89 Turbo Rat. Its got the elusive LM308n chip in plus it can get Rat2 tones and then some.

They also tend to be cheaper on the used market than regular Rats.
