OK, guys and gals, which one of these would you choose....

    1. Gretsch Brian Setzer - $2002
    2. Les Paul 58 RI Gold Top - $2200

Both guitars are brand new, from a dealer who's blowing them out. Both have cases and all documentation. I was told that the LP is a limited run of only 100 pieces. It's NOT a 57 GT which is much more common. The neck on this one is smaller than the 57. I played them both and they both play and sound great. And no, I can't afford to buy them both, as much as I'd like to. From a collectible stand-point, I guess the LP would be the better choice but the Gretsch is very cool.

So, whadda ya think, which one would you go for???

That is a cruel choice, but I'd grab the grestch.

Depends, do you have another les paul? If you've already got a les paul or reasonable facsimile I'd grab the gretsch since I'm all for 'different flavors'

The closest thing I have to a LP is an SG Classic with P90's. All my other guitars are either Teles or Strats.

Oh get the Les Paul then for sure. Don't look back. Worse comes to worse you can flip it for close to what you paid or even more if it's Lim Ed

I have both. However, I think I would use the LP more so I'd go with that.

I like the Gretsch, although you can find the exact same Setzer models in mint condition for around $1,700. That's a good price for a brand new Gretsch, but they are easily available for less $$$$$. Also, the Bigsby RULES!!!!

Go for the LP! That is a GREAT price on a new, limited edition model.

To me no contest, the les paul. By the way that is a very good price, go and grab it before someone else does it.

Depends on the music. Gretsch won't do high gain, so if that's important, get the LP.

I just can't bond with the Gretsch. That's just me. I'd say get a used Gibson every time. If you have the cash though and don't mind buying new, definately go for the Gibson.

both are great guitars, i recently owned a goldtop and it was a very nice guitar and i also have owned 5 setzer models over the years and i love them. it really depends on what type of music you play.
you will cover more ground with the les paul and it can do most types of music, the gretsch is cant really do rock stuff as well as the gibson but when it comes to a beautiful clean tone the gretsch is hard to beat.

I'd do the LP! The Gretsch is great, too. I have both a LP and a Setzer Sig. The Setzer is cool standing up, strapped on and plugged in, but it is not comfortable for kicking back in a recliner in front of the TV. If I was playing out more, I'd play the Gretsch more than I do. But unless I am recording, it mostly just sits there looking cool.
