Sorry if this topic has been beaten to hell. I have owned two BB preamps and I think it's a great pedal. I've been itching to try the Landgraff, but am not sure I can justify the cost.

Has anyone here directly compared the two??

    What were your thoughts??

    thanks

Two very different pedals. The LDO is a modified Tube Screamer circuit. the BB is smoother on the top end with a more Dumble like lead tone. The BB preamp along with my Klon are my two favorite OD pedals of all time!

    Hey, thanks for the reply.

Hopefully I can find a LDO used so I can try it out. Thanks for the clarification!

    While we are at it:

Would you say the Klon is closer to the BB or the LDO??

I haven't tried a BB, but the Klon is nothing like the LDO...and if the BB is anything Dumblish (like a Zendrive, for example), then the Klon is nothing like the BB either :) The Klon is a heavy mid-booster with a creamy overdrive to it, while the LDO is your basic tubescreamer circuit with some upgrades (more treble and gain, more sustain). The Klon normally made my rig sound like it was "underwater," for lack of a better term, so I ended up dumping it. That said, it excels at goosing your amp when you're on the edge of breakup.

No need to blow that kind of money on an LDO...

just mod a tubescreamer to LDO specs. (or have someone mod it for you)
the parts and values of his TS mod are well known already.

Or buy a Lovekraft Mojodrive "stealth" for $139. VERY similar to the LDO.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

That Lovekraft pedal actually sounds really nice from the clips.

I've had both and and they are extremely close IMO. The LDO may be a bit more compressed and a tad more Hi-fi, but again for the $$$ it's hardly a contest.
