Who have you seen walk onstage and immediately own the place (not just because they were famous)?

Ive seen very few who seemed to emit some sort of "aura" that commanded attention from the get go.

    1) Bob Dylan
He was really "on" that night and there was just something about his presence.

    2) David Bowie
    Ditto

    3) Scott Weiland
I had kinda liked STP's singles but had not paid too much attention until the time I delivered a couple of TCM guitars to Brad Delsen of Linkin Park, who were also on the bill.

Weiland was totally on that night and had the crowd transfixed immediately. I was very impressed and so took STP a lot more seriously thereafter.

Saw Robert Plant and Allison Krauss on the Raising Sand tour.

Plant was like an eye and ear magnet. Immediate and sustained stage presence.

(Allison was no slouch either, just more low-key in her charms)

Never seen anyone who isnt famous do that.

I think the fame makes us give them that and then attribute it to them.

On the flip side, yeah people can work a willing crowd.

...and, surprisingly enough, Jeff Beck. Not because of his personal charisma, but because he can walk up on stage, hit one note on the Strat and you realize, yes, this is the master. Happened to me and a couple of hundred other players in the audience at my first Jeff Beck show around 1998 or so, when he was touring with Jennifer Batten.

FWIW regarding Springsteen. He doesn’t walk onstage and own a place because he’s famous. He got famous because he can walk onstage and own a place.

I suspect that this is true.

When I saw him, he put on by far the best show I’ve ever seen.

I've seen many do it over the years, but most recently was Tom Howie of Bob Moses (a duo, not a group, a la Steely Dan). Total star.

I've been to 3 of his concerts. Fantastic live show and I'm not really a fan. He definitely owns the place live.

Saw U2 in the early 90s. Bono appeared on stage to thunderous applause and walked around with his arms raised in the air drawing in all the adoration. It was impressive.
