I picked up one of these lately, and I have a few queries/problems.

When I engage the boost mode to drive the amp, whether it's with single coils or humbuckers, I get this horrible farting sound. And it's very thin and nasaly. And it's not the tone control being to high either, as when I play it without the boost it's a lot darker and has more bass. I'm running it through a g12t-75 and put it through a g12h-100 the other day and no difference.

Maybe I just need to change out the junk tubes, I'm still rocking the stock ones :dunno

I would agree; although, I thought the amp sounded pretty good with the stock tubes as well. I actually left the stock tubes in the amp for 6 months or so before changing them. I recently installed a JJ 6V6 and TungSol 12AX7. The tube change made a significant improvement. I play the Special 6 head through a 2x12 with a Scumback M75/H75 speaker mix. It sounds huge.

I m still looking for a replacement speaker for my combo, im dying to hear how the quality really sounds. Mine is still new and has that kind of raspy top end sound when i have the boost on

I picked up an Electro Harmonix 6v6 and a Tung-sol 12ax7 (all my local store had), so i'll put them in and see if it makes much of a difference.

Mine's the normal version of the special 6 not the ultra so there's no v2.

I've replaced the tubes, but they still have this weird sort of grainy sound when pushed, and there's no sustain the note just cuts out.

JJ6V6s and a Tung Sol RI 12ax7 in mine also. I play it through a 212 cab with WGS ET-65's. It is my go to amp for playing at home.

Let the tubes warm up for a bit, and after 5 minutes or so, the 'ghosting' or 'fuzzy' notes are gone, and the amp sounds 10 times better than with the stock tubes. Might drop in a 12au7 next though, I love the cleans on the amp but there's not that much headroom.

I think the amp works best with a darker, bassier speaker.
