SO being born in '73 and then becoming a skater from age 10 to 15, New Wave and Punk went hand in hand. So to go along with the New Wave thread. Although not as popular... let's hear some favorite Punk bands. My list might be some of the basics and growing up in Colorado I would assume there were an amazing amount of band that I never got to experience. These were so.e of my favorites.

I remember going over to a place called 1st Amendment Records and just buying something from the Punk section and later finding out it was some kind of White Power band... but thats a story for another time.

    Suicidal Tendencies
    The Exploited
    Circle Jerks
    Black Flag
    The Dead Milkman
    DRI
    GBH

I don't often listen to punk, but when I do, I listen to Crass.

    (Or the Dead Kennedy's)

Good idea for a new thread.

I'm a 74' vintage so kinda was oblivious to it at the time of it's heyday.

In order of most loved first...

    The Jam
    The Stranglers
    The Clash
    The Dead Kennedy's
Black Flag (awful, but i'm a lifelong admirer of Rollins, so it counts)
The Sex Pistols (mostly because of what they did and meant, rather than for the ok music)

Is it too early to include the Stooges and the MC5? Or is that going to cause too many derailments this early on?

Here's a couple of Punk bands I've never been able to like as well - The Dammed, The Rammones. :hide

I want to add one of my all-time favorites TSOL that I listen to extensively during the same period but Im not sure I ever considered them Punk. I would have classified them as Skate Rock?

I mostly listened to Change Today

I will listen and report back... maybe the same as how Ministry was NW and the TMIATTTT was not?

    Edit: NW = New Wave
TMIATTTT = The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste

Celibate Rifles are obscure outside Australia but the rest are big names from the dawn of punk. Educate yourself.

The others are mostly obscure, but The Buzzcocks were a legendary Punk band. This is perhaps one of the greatest punk anthems. I'll be surprised if you haven't heard it.

    Pete Shelly died recently actually.

To be fair, Gang of Four have been consistently influential beyond their time.

Sick of it All..... from New York City: Probably the band I've seen the most live. I've lost count how many times but it just be in the mid to high 20s.

Following by Poison Idea (kings of punk, of course) and ST.
I also love bands like Bad Religion, Ignite, Pennywise etc., although some dont call them punk.

I cant say I have a favorite BF album. Suicidal, GBH, DRI an Dead Milkman were my favorites.

The only one I listen to time to time anymore is The Dead Milkman. It brings back some good memories.

Never heard of them and never heard that song, but it reinforces my GAS for a Les Paul Jr in TV Yellow. :)

Unlike New Wave, which is multi-genre and era spanning, it occurs to me from my list that I just don't listen to any punk made after the 76-80 heyday.

Funny that. I see you guy's are posting far more modern bands than me.
