I remember a long time ago reading an article that said that Slash's favorite LP wasn't made by Gibson, but by a custom luthier that passed away. Anyone who that was and if it's possible to get another guitar like that?

    Thanks!

There were two. One made by Chris Derring in the pic above, and one made by Max that ccan be seen in the Welcome to the Jungle video.

It's hard to believe that AFD is 20 years old next year. Same year I graduated high school....yikes!

Yeah, Great player IMO, I was WAY into GnR when they came out (8th grade) Saved up, bought a Les Paul, and eventually a Marshall.

I believe at one point in time I could play at least all the rhythm tracks on appetite. LOL Been a LONG time since I played that stuff!

And it still rips like no other album. :AOK

It's still so dirty and menacing, and I reckon it would probably still kill if it came out today. Welcome To The Jungle just tears up it so hard :dude

Have you ever listened to just the left channel on those tracks - especially Paradise City? I think that was Izzy on that channel. Its killer rhythm work.

    Yeah, good stuff.

Wish Izzy would've kept it together for UYI 1&2. Slash had to redo most of Izzy's parts.

Yeah Izzy is on the left and Slash is on the right, except in the solos where he's usually in the center.

Those guys are the reason I picked up guitar in the first place. AFD was a perfect blend of classic rock type of stuff like AC/DC + Aerosmith and punk rock like Dead Boys + New York Dolls.

How Slash plays with his guitar so low, I'll never know.

I play with mine fairly high up.

Guess I'll never be that cool... :(

Slash wears it high compared to old Jimmy Page. Them there are 2 of my favorite guitar players.:AOK Jimmy rates #1, but Slash is in the top #5.

    Like anyone really cared.:NUTS

I've seen Slash live many times. Usually he'll yank his guitar up closer to his chest for faster solos like this:

    I can't see the picture.

This is a very cool thread. About how many LP did Chris Derrig make?

Both of 'em have it so low, I can't believe they can play at all like that.

When I was a wee guitarist, I tried to look like Page, but I couldn't even play barre chords that low, much less any lead work. Maybe that's why I never made it...

Now, begs the question, who actually played guitar on AFD?

One of our fellow TGP'ers has an amazing derrig. He actually told me it was a real burst at first and I believed him. It sounds incredible. Amazing guitars. I have never seen one for sale.
