When I am asked if I play guitar I usually say, "I make noise with a guitar." Someone one pulled a quote from a well known musician or composer for me at tome time that sounded quite similar. Something like I make create noise and sometimes I even like it, or something similar. I lost the citation when I had a hard drive crash about a year ago and would love to get it back. I have conducted several searches on the net over the last year but I suspect it is rather obscure (or I do not have the right terms or phases close enough).

Does anything like this ring a bell? Guess anyone?

Thanks folks. I am thinking it was like a Bach style composer (quote relative to music) or a jazz player. "I make music and sometimes I find it pleasing." Something like that...

I often refer to what I play as "no music", intending it to not conform to a given form, sorta zen and personal expression. But then when I play with others, I play music.

But, what Keiji Haino is doing is lost on me.

What early Zappa did is brilliant 'no music' to me.

Actually, Neil Young's 'down by the river' solo, I also consider as 'no music', yet brilliant.

I do. Say it every time I pick up a guitar.

Then I mumble a mess of unmentionables....
