I have a 1964 Jensen C12Q I've decided to have reconed. Who would you have do it? I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have had direct experience getting such a speaker (vintage) reconed.

My 2001 Clark Beaufort had a Weber reconed P12Q in it when I got it from Mike Clark and it sounds GREAT! I would recommend Ted for the recone...

Weber doesn't do recones of anything but their own speakers as of about a year ago---too busy with kit production.
Uncle Spot or Orange County Speaker for the West Coast....

Ted does recones, but only on certain vintage brands and his own. He handles requests on a case-by-case basis.

Ron Veil, Uncle Spot, learned a lot about reconing from Ted Weber from what I recall so he should be qualified if Ted won't or can't do it.

These guys did an excellent job for me on a vintage C12N:

    http://www.simplyspeakers.com/

However, I don't know if they still do Jensens, because that website has a list of speaker brands that they repair and Jensen isn't on it.

Well how about that? Never thought I would see someone mention Charlie's name on this board - other than me. I just got my LP Custom back from a set up a few days ago - wonderful as usual. He's done all of my work for the last 15-20 years.

Charile reconed a vintage C12N for me from a '66 Ampeg Gemini I, as well as 4 x 12" Oxfords from a '72 Quad Reverb. No issues, great price, and they sound fantastic.

He's a busy, busy man around here.

Anybody can recone a speaker, but the key is what cone kit do they install. Many people use a generic kit and not the original one because they are not a dealer and cannot get the original manufacture's parts.

As far as I'm concered there are ONLY two in the US, (excluding Weber, who do their own speakers):

West Coast - Orange County Speaker http://www.speakerrepair.com/

East Coast - Consolidated Audio http://www.consolidatedaudio.net/speakerrecone/

Call either of these two companies and talk to them and you'll understand why all the pro audio companies send their blown speakers to them.

I just sent a speaker to Orange County in california and they did a very good job. They were pretty quick, and were very responsive to communication. I would use them again.

Another vote for Ron Veil, AKA Unclespot.com He reconed a P12N and a C12N and both make a beautiful sound to behold.
