I've got a Bogner Shiva, and because of the special cable needed, I've never tried putting anything in the FX Loop.

Now as I've got more modulation on my board, and possibly more coming, I thought I might look into using it.

Those that are using the loops, do you find delay, tremolo and chorus to sound better there?

I'd imagine phaser and vibe I'd still want before the amp, correct?

I have a mesa dual recto and reverb only sounds good through the loop, however, Delay sounds good through the loop or before the amp, but I have found that chorus, flange and phase all sound better before the amp IMO.

I also have the shiva. I'm running my Bi-Chorus, DLS EchoTap, and Boss Loop Station via the fx loop. I love it way better than running them in front. The fx levels are more consistant IMO when switching between clean and dirty tones.

I run reverb through my fx loop on the 1987x but have found delay sounds better through the input.

I've always found delays/reverbs to sound better in the fx loop. If you run the amp clean a delay into the front isn't bad but once you start to add gain it gets garbled...

what do you mean by 'special cable'?

I find all modulation sounds best in the loop.. The only thing I keep out of the loop are analog delays.. I find them to be too dark and quiet (even when loop volume maxed).. This would depend on the amp you are using..

Those are needed on the older Shivas (mine is the 5th one ever made).
To make it more confusing I use a Furman pedalboard that's got some built in FX loop I've never messed with.

I use the FX loop on my Shiva, too. For me, running delay through the loop is a must when using the Shiva's gain channel. If you run delay into the input, the first note is dirty but the repeats much cleaner. It sounds weird.

With the Bogner FX cable I have no problems with the FX loop at all.

I use a pair of Chandler Echo's in the loop of my Rivera M-60.

    phoenix,
Do you have the older model Shiva, where you need that special loop cable? If so, did you purchase or build it?

...traynor ycv40wr. even though i only use the clean channel, i still find that the (delay, reverb, modulation) effects sound richer, clearer and more three-dimensional through the loop.

I put my delay and trem pedal into the loop of my Rivera Chubster 55. The loop has send and return level controls.

Delay & reverb in my Matchless Clubman's loop. Sounds killer.

Totally true, it's difficult to balance delay and reverb when those are run in line before the amp...if the amp is a channel switcher.
