You state that definition as though it’s a universal, undisputed fact. It’s just opinion.

The composer decides whether or not it’s music. You’re free to decide whether you like it, or not, though.

The idea of defining what music is seems very unmusical to me.

John Bonham called, he wants to know why you think he isn't a musician?

"They did it better" or "they were better known" are such strange arguments to me.

I got as far as what I have set in bold in your post, and burst out laughing! Tell me you are joking!

Cream were there before them, even before LZ existed. While Page was pissing around on his Tele, Leslie West with Mountain was showing what a hard rock band REALLY sounded like (have you actually heard of them, or heard anything by them?).

Zep inventive? They were re-treads, even when they started out. What they DID have was a Manager who pushed them to the Nth degree.

And Hendrix was not in a hard rocking band, as LZ invented that??? Excuse me while I wipe the tears of laughter from my face...

That's me too. I still listen to them and enjoy them. However, I'm not going to pretend they didn't rip off other artists to do it, or go through mental gymnastics to pretend they didn't. The fact is they absolutely are guilty of recording other people's music without giving proper credit.

The silly thing about it is that it would have cost them very little of their millions to have simply paid proper royalties to the artists they covered. There's nothing wrong at all with covering other people's music. There's absolutely something wrong with not giving them proper credit. Someone upthread mentioned how many of those artists go recognition and more success from LZ covering them. That's true, but imagine if their names had actually been mentioned in the album liner notes, and then imagine if those (generally, poor) artists had gotten a nice royalty check on a regular basis to supplement them. That would have been the right thing to do. It would have cost LZ so little to have done the right thing, and yet they chose not to do it. It does diminish them as people, no matter how much I like their music.

They would have had to cut somebody else in on the songwriting money. You're absolutely right, it would not have meant a great deal to them. It seems so incredibly greedy.

I guess I laid down my opinion and why that is how I think about.
That doesn´t mean I don´t know about Mountain, Cream, MC5, Love Sculpture, Blue Cheer and lots of other stuff.

You might have a different view on this - that´s OK.

If your post is about to let me appear ridiculous, go ahead, do so.
    Not my Cup of tea.

The reason is that SRV gave song writing credits to JH. Zep did not. That is the crux of the matter. Song writing credits.
