like insurance salesmen? All other pro sports coaches wear team colors and gear. Why are these guys different?

There's a dress code in the NBA. Coaches are required to dress professionally when they are coaching. Players are also required to dress professionally when traveling with the team/going to and from games etc.

David Stern, the former commissioner, wanted to try to develop some sort of a professional image for the league.

hockey coaches wear suits as well

Im guessing cuz basketball coaches are mostly ex players and really
tall people only look good in formal attire

In baseball the managers/coaches wear the same uni's as the players. Always thought that was odd.

    werent there player-managers in baseball?

I cant see any other sport where a coach would be able to actually play in the game

I bet Byron Scott could come into a game and sink a few baskets...hell, he can probably still play better than half those losers they call the Lakers now...

I get the image part. But requiring them to wear hot suit and tie in an environment of such frantic motion seems a bit of overkill. At least something with an open collar. Just looks very odd to me that they are the only people dressed like that who coach players in their underwear.

What if football coaches suited up? I would like to see Rex Ryan in pads.

The only coach who would look good in a football uniform would have been Ditka.

They brought in the dress code because Doug Moe dressed like a wino leaving a bar at 2AM and the league thought it made them all look bad.

He could play then. Which would make him even more legendary, if that's possible.

My boy is will be turning 10 this year and plays AAA hockey. They have to wear shirt/tie/dress pants/dress shoes to every game.

    I think it's good.
