Why don't we do the pedalboard comps here?

Recently joined up at hcfx and noticed that they
have pedalboard comps where the membership votes
for the best pedalboard in various catagories...

Is there a reason that we don't do that here? They had
some great prizes that had been donated...

Could be a bit of fun for the tgpers...?

I mean ppl here at least discuss effects unlike the
crazy banter that takes place over there...

Who's to say what the 'Best' is really. Thats like saying who is the best guitarist? Lets have a vote... it will get messy bro.

Music/Gear is about expression, not competition.. OR an "its not what you got, its how you use it" kinda thing...

That only happens if it's taken too seriously which it wasn't over on HC. It was just good fun and if you entered you got the chance to get a prize just for entering not even for winning. Don't knock till you try it.

We had one last year, it was just for fun :) I think there were about 5-7 catagories. Someone just needs to organize it.

Yeah, the reason the one at HCFX worked so well was because there were no prizes for the winners. Prizes were randomly drawn from a pool of everyone who entered, so there was no reason to take the competition too seriously. I mean, I think I got 5th in my category or something, and I didn't care. It's just fun getting to see everyone's board in the same place, and a little friendly competition is always fun.

If we do one, let's wait until the end of March when my Klon will be in though. ;)

It won't work here because unless you have a Klon or Timmy people won't pay any attention. If you have a Moogerfooger (or 3)they will think nothing of it (even though they are amazing pedals!!).

If you joined HC why not take part in next years comp?

RE the crazy banter it has recently got worse but at heart it's nominally about effects and more about people with the same mindset, Jazzmasters, NMV amps, Indie music and of course effects thrown in.

IMHO this site is more about the finer points of overdrives for bedroom playing.

The one at HC was fun, and as mentioned, prizes were not based on "best" but on a random drawing, this sort of eliminated butt hurt and all.

A friendly competition is fun, good organization is key. I enjoyed seeing all of the interesting entries. Having a good number of categories is also key, so everyone can participate. The one think I noticed with the HCfx one, is that there are always a ton of entries for the medium board category (6-10 pedals) so if there is someway to prevent this glut, that might be helpful.

Because Markom89 would be like "This is a pedalboard I assembled with my leftovers", and it would still have every single wait-listed pedal we all want but can't have, and we'd have Zachman posting pictures of his rack kit, and then people would yell at him for being such a show-off.

(Yep, that's envy you smell. Both Markom and Zach have drool-inducing setups.)
