I just don't get why tremolos/floating bridges are so popular on production guitars, when their use is so uncommon in music.
I’m all three categories!!!!I think there are three types of floating bridge users:
1- People who have fully integrated it into their style (Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Michael Lee Firkins, Scott Henderson, etc)
2- People who use it just for a little vibrato or shimmer on chords. (A lot of the time you wouldn't even know they are using it because it's so subtle.)
3- People who use it when they run out of ideas, and need to fill some space, so here comes that big "dive bomb" (Sadly, i fall into this category which is why i don't put the bar on the guitar most of the time)
As to why so many guitars are made with them? Tradition.
