After spending alot of hours in studio a couple of gigs and rehearsel whit the band I still think the MC is way to bright. The amp is great other than this.Anyone else think its to bright?Any advise to do something about it?
what if he already runs them off? what speakers you running it through? some celestion 65s would probably tame some of the brightness.
Yes, changing your speakers can tame brightness, but that is a pretty major step to take with your setup. Before doing that, I'd tinker with the preamp tubes. The one in the V1 (first gain stage position) is where the most effect on tone/gain will be made with a switch. Swapping tubes is not complicated, and it is relatively cheap (at least to sample different current production 12AX7s, which run $8-15 each...not getting into NOS...). It is a little tricky though, because for many tubes you will try, less brightness may also mean lower gain. That might not be what you were after. Myles made a recent post on this BB with his review of the characteristics of many different current production 12AX7 tubes. Have a look. Maybe something like the 12AX7M in your V1 position might sound better to you? Cheers, Blair
You have EH preamp tubes right? Those are WAY bright IMO....I have my Modern loaded with all Chinese 12ax7B's right now. My amp is not bright even with the Bright control all the way up. Why not turn the treble down some more? The tone controls only need slight adjustments to make a noticeable difference.
Chinese and EH's are indeed bright. JJ's and Tung-Sols seem to be very well balanced, Tung-Sols are even warm sounding to me. That and G12-65's should get you where you want to be.
Are you talking about the rhythm or lead channel ? I'd agree the rhythm ch. is too bright. Lead is just right to me.
I have tried JJ`s didnt like them. The GB sounds great whit my modded Marshall so I dont want to change speakers, maybe try to get another cab and load it whit 65`s.
Those are ok tubes, I don't find them too bright overall. I'd still try some Chinese if you get the chance. How loud do you get to play the amp?
I don't know how any amp can be bright with V30's....When I ran those with my head the treb and pres were cranked and it was still dull.... I play my Anderson Tele thru mine all the time...its not bad brightness wise with that....maybe you just cant get it turned up enough?
Just act like you cant hear them! :AOK Another thing you can try is alittle batting on the inside of the back panel of your cab....that cuts down high end.
Yes it does, but the amp is so great other than that.I really cant stand that brightness. What about your Voodoos compared to the MC?
