And here in nth Queensland! we are on cyclone watch! with a low looking like forming up in the next day or so. My contract finishes on Friday, and I get to drive home. So long as it stays out to see until after. Friday evening, I'm not too bothered

Another "wussie" from SW Georgia checking in. Yard is about 90% covered in snow, temp in mid-20's. No work with full pay!

I have worked for a hospital for the past 13 years. They have only recently started to close all non-essential outpatient services for inclement weather. It was never this way in the past.Twice this year I've been dismissed at 1PM, and we have had delayed openings a few times. I love it. The only time we ever shut down completely was for 3 days during Hurricane Sandy. (day it hit, and 2 days after.)

Totally worth it for the gif of the girl diving into the snow.

We have a weather clause. We don't leave the yard or get out of the truck until it's 11 degrees. We still have to be there but at least we don't have to be out in it.

    Same here in northwest Georgia.

Well, I work at home 3 days a week to be exact. Got to go in Thursday (normally at home that day) for a 2018 "strategy" meeting. You know metric, line of sight goals, etc....90 minutes of blowing smoke and general BS. Very little of it has any real meaning. I'd rather hear about what is likely to really come to pass. That would really shorten the meeting.

Nah leave it on, it gives the car some character. By the end of winter the stalagmites and tites growing off my truck are something to behold.

As another former NY'er just up the interstate, I can say it is the same here. The biggest problem we have is "black ice." Due to the relatively high ground temperature, any snow or precipitation freezes as soon as the sun goes down and makes the roads treacherous.

Fortunately, on my side of the street, all power is underground so we are not affected by ice on trees falling and taking out the power lines as others.

    I hope everyone is safe.

I can't stand this polar vortex crap. :/

I'm use to the cold...but when it starts to get in the minus stuff...ugh.
Main thing for me is hoping that the dang car will start in the morning
    and especially AFTER work!

I honestly think when it gets THIS cold - places need to cancel for a while until it warms up.
It's not safe to be out in.

But that involves $ - and this cold has lasted for a while now - so....

    Guess....I'm out in the cold!!!

People always make fun of the states that usually don't get snow without taking time to consider that the cities and towns have no way of clearing the snow and making the streets safe.

I once flew a couple of businessmen from White Plains, NY to Newport News, VA.
The runway had a dusting of snow on it when we landed. Nobody else had used the airport yet at about 9 am.
The meeting was cancelled because the local people didn't want to drive to it.
Our pax were back with us in about 10 minutes and we turned around and brought them back to White Plains, which had low ceiling and vis and braking action reported as "poor".
Just another day on the job.
