would evidence audio be overkill

Hi there
I currently have elixir cables from guitar to board and board to amp and have a lava solderless mini elc kit on the board.
I'm looking to upgrade the elixirs and having done a few searches on here it would seem the general consensus I'd evidence lyric hg is the preferred choice.
As everyone's probably aware these are expensive cables, I don't mind paying the price for the quality and sound but am just wondering as I only play at home and don't gig, if there gonna be overkill for me.
Or maybe something like lavas ultramafic would be better suited.
I play a tom anderson hollow t classic with m series pickups into a blues Jr iii with tayden high Brit speaker.
Thanks for any advice!!:beer

I like the Lyrics, but they are stiff. Might want to try a Reveal or Forte from guitar to board.

What does your pedalboard look like? If you have a buffered pedal early in your signal chain, then the choice of cables (from a tonal standpoint) becomes largely irrelevant after that specific pedal. Beyond that, Elixirs seem to have the lowest capacitance (and therefore the greatest tonal benefit, IMO) of any cable I've ever seen, so "upgrading" to evidence audio might be somewhat counterproductive. However, definitely let us know your pedal chain, since it will complete the picture and allow us to see whether the pedalboard cables and board-to-amp cable even matter in this equation.

Wow thanks for this chaps.
The board is currently currently being re built and I'm waiting on some pedals to be built.
Here's the layout though
Guitar into
Timmy
Mkii with oc81 trannies
Buzzaround with nkt213s
Ts808
Klone (buffered)
Neunaber echelon
Whetstone

The board will be wired with a lava elc solder less kit.
Thanks so much guys! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

those transistors are horrible with any cable.
good thing you mentioned them.
hahahhaaa…..
:sarcasm

Lyric HG's are awesome from my exp.
A Studio or Home cable for sure.

It appears that the TS808, Klone, and Echelon (if you have it in trails mode) are all buffered. This being the case, any cabling after any of those pedals in your chain becomes basically irrelevant, and your cable to your amp is definitely not significant in terms of tone. I would simply focus on having the shortest cable amounts (using the Elixirs) possible/comfortable for you until you hit that first buffer - from there anything should be fine since, tonally, they have virtually no effect. This will give you the most clarity, high-end extension/response, etc. possible in your sound.

However, if you are feeling that your sound is too bright/clear/clinical and you wanted to warm it up and give some midrange focus, you could either use more cable length or switch to something with a higher capacitance, such as the Evidence Audio cables. Ultimately, it just depends on the type of sound you want from your setup.

what length cables are you considering?

If you're looking at 6-10 feet, and you run that buffered Klone all the time,
then the benefit from going to a higher-grade cable will be largely placebo.

EDIT: ZeppFuzz brings up a good point:
while the 'cable upgraders' around here are usually looking for more highs,
toning it down a touch can be advantageous for some of us... I personally like having a good, cheapo, 20 ft coily laying around for when things get too brisk.

Thanks for this!
The elixirs are both 10ft lengths so I would imagine if I swapped they would be similar lengths.
The 808s going to be true bypass so I could run it before the two Fuzzes if they stack well.
So basically with the klon being buffered switching out the last elixirs gonna be a bit pointless.
Ive always liked the sound I get with the elixirs but they are clinical for want of a better word.
(Warming)!! It up would be a nice addition to the overall tone perhaps!

I use the Forte for the long cables and Monorail on my board. I like the Forte as it's flexible and sounds great with a warmer, balanced tone.

:agreeIt's the flexible version of the Lyric where as the Reveal is the flexible version of the Melody. Good stuff.

I foresee this guy ending up with an AB box with a sterile cord in A and a megalong coily on B

I use the Lyric HG from guitar to pedalboard, and pedalboard to amp. Yea, they are stiff, but they sound GREAT! I've used the same Lyric HG from my guitar for many years, and no problems with it at all. I don't move around a lot when I play, so, the stiffness is not a problem.

If you want a more flexible Evidence cable, the new version of the Forte' has a sound closer to the Lyric HG, according to what Tony told me recently, and he also posted about it on the Gear Page recently, with pics. I will be ordering one soon.

+1 on the Lyric HG sounding great, but way too stiff. Haven't tried the Forte, but the Melody is also very nice.

Just picked up a couple of lyric cables from strings direct here in the UK, and have some lava mini ultramafic on order from mark at lava for the pedal board.
Not had chance to play the lyrics yet but they look and feel an absolute quality cable so I imagine the sound matches the build quality!
Many many thanks for the advice guys!
