I got a lead on a '75 Mocha Strat. It has tuners and pickguard changed

The bridge pickup is changed out but he has the original and it's dated '74

The neck feels smaller than my baseball bat neck '79 Antigua, and the pickupssound a lot smoother than my '79.

I'm trying to do an even trade for my 2011 Fender LTD. Ed. 60th Annv. Tele I picked up at the pawnshop for $500. The value of this guitar in it's present condition is at least $1100. Here are the pics of the Tele and of the '75 Strat (owners pics)

Do I do it or not?

If that is your only Tele and you have another strat, I might suggest standing pat. If you have another good Tele, that 70's Strat seems like a fun player and you'd be in the positive equity considering you got a good deal on the Tele.

I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. But I'm a Strat guy, so take that into consideration. I had a mocha mid-70s Strat hardtail for many years, and it was a great guitar.

I have plenty of other Teles and Strats. I just thought I might be a better deal considering the vintage factor of the strat.

True but its in players condition and its not 100% original.

Since you have other Teles, I'd probably say do it just for the age of the Strat, although I know that doesn't mean its better.

Are your other Teles better than the one you're trading, or are you getting rid of your best Tele to trade for a Strat that hasn't proved itself yet?

No matter what, I'd trade, simply in value alone...IF all else is original (other than that which you mentioned)- face it- you have $500 in your Tele (decent deal at that)- worse case scenario, down the road, you'll come out ahead, no matter what, IMHO- UNLESS you LOVE that Tele- I'd STILL go for it- interesting if they'll take the deal-

If the strat sounds as smooth as you say and the only reason you're keeping the tele is because it was a good deal then I'd say do the trade.
Better a great sounding player than a case queen.

Get the strat. Relatively easy to get another 2011 tele, not a "75 strat.

So essentially an American standard tele for a vintage strat with some issues...id do it.

That tele wont fetch 1100. That strat might.

Do the deal if you really like the Strat.

I'd take the Strat...but this is one of those rare cases where I'd want to find out how much it weighed first!

Well guys, I just got back after giving it another run through.

    It came home with me.

I really listened to the guitar and really played the guitar this time. I listened to all the pickup settings, and the guitar really does sound good.

The neck is way smaller than my baseball bat neck '79 Antigua, and really felt good in my hands.

I also realized after having around my neck for a bit, that it's WAY lighter than my '79. It's gotta weigh just over 7 lbs. I didn't weigh it,but it feels about the same at my '08 Chambered LP Standard which is just over 7 lbs.

I did not want to regret passing up this guitar for a Tele I can find easily on Reverb or E-bay. I know I won't get the Tele $500,but I can't get a '75 like this one for $500 either.

I know with a good setup this guitar is going to be a player. The color is not my favorite, but I care more about how it plays and sounds more that the look.
